..then how does a power boost to 310-362HP sound?

German tuning specialist, B&B, is turning the up wick on the most potent series-production Golf ever made, the new 270HP all-wheel drive Golf R, with the launch of a performance package that includes powertain and chassis upgrades.

The engine mods come in three different stages, with the first bumping output from 270 horsepower to 310HP, the second to 324HP and the third to a hefty 362HP.

The most powerful kit features a larger turbocharger, a sports exhaust system with a different downpipe and a racing catalyst, reprogrammed ECU, a revised air intake system and a new intercooler.

B&B claims that the 362HP Golf R sprints from standstill to 100km/h (62mph) in just 4.8 seconds and maxes out at 280km/h or 174 mph.

The tuning firm also offers a special 8-calliper high-performance braking system, an adjustable coilover suspension with new springs that lower the vehicle's ride height and a set of black-coloured alloy wheels in sizes 19'' and 20''.

Now that's the kind of tuning package I've been on about. I'll have to buy one now. It will be interesting to see what the other tuners come up with, but with the mods stated, I should imagine they'll all be similar power outputs. Perhaps they should now concentrate on an upgraded suspension package.

What? No price for probably the most expensive hatchback in the world. :roflmao:

Pub bragging rights would be awesome....

"Just spent £30k+ on my new car and I've just spent another (let's guess) £10k getting it tuned." *smug* "I'm pushing 362HP now"

"Dude, seriously, it's a Golf" lmao.gif

Do I sense fear in the camp? ;) A Golf? Nah, more like the Uber Golf, uber tuned  S3 engine or otherwise, I'd say that's rights for bragging perfection :roflmao:Need another fresh pair of Calvins now...

Looks good, but as mentioned, nothing you can't do with an S3, however, the S3 is getting a bit long in the tooth now, and the Golf mk6 is growing on me every day.

What amuses me is the '8 caliper' braking system, now assuming they mean 8 pot calipers, what's the fecking point? once you go past even 4 pots, the gains are almost non existent, all your doing is adding weight where you don't want it?

Yeah and watch the reliability go down hill.

Riz

No no no no no.

Anyway, I'm obviously missing a trick here. I need to borrow a car, make up a load of figures and put them into a fake press release, which Andy will then quote which will make me look cool which in turn will make me rich!

Did I mention our Stage 1 upgrade on a completely vanilla car takes the power to 323bhp? Not bad for £449 you might say.

I`m sorry but anybody who thinks tuning a car does not impact the life of engine compared to the standard one is dreaming......

I didn't say that (so don't misquote me) however you suggested the reliability would go downhill in such a fashion that you could "watch" it happen. With good tuning, that won't happen. Simples +++

Sorry, did`nt mean to misquote you. One of the main problems is you can never tell what tuning does to a engine long-term without proper research etc, and I doubt most tuning companies would do that...... saying that there were loads of old S3 running revo, amd, mtm and various other mappings with no really problems. But you did get the odd one which blew up due to turbo turbines failing and getting sucked into the engines etc.

Me personally if I was to get a tuned car I would keep some £££ aside for any issues etc, just in case.

The cost of the Uber Golf seems to be the biggest gripe for most. Have you driven one? And if so, does it live up to the GTI heritage, or more?

Nope, that's on the to do list. Fired up the latest GTI the other day and was very glad to get back to the v6 afterwards!
