Scotty
I was riding home from work, heading across a traffic light controlled crossing and white van man who was in the lane next to me and about 10 feet in front decided to jab the brakes and throw an immediate right right on a No Right Turn. Cue buildings and the sky spinning about and me on the deck. Bike needs fairings, mirror, can, pedals, caliper and maybe front forks ... which I know sometimes writes a bike off. I've got a banged up should and toe but came out of it relatively ok. It happen one hour ago and the shoulders already up in a big bruise so it could get colourful. Now recovered back to the office and waiting for a lift home with my colleague. Fecking white vans.

Paul
Sorry to hear that Paul. Glad your ok. I have been hobbling about with a badly sprained and bruised ankle after slipping on ice (covered by snow) at work. I changed ends. At one point my feet were above my head, and at 6ft2 it was a hard landing! So i can appreciate the pain and bruising around a joint like the shoulder. It can take some repairing. Scotty
I'm glad I had decent gear on. My Halvarsson's textiles have think padding and really thick protection on the impact points.... perhaps people in the snow and ice should get some My old stuff just had thin foam and much thinner protection. My hi-viz seems to have kept most of the abrasion from the suit. My boots seem untouched somehow and the gloves just have a slight grazing. However my £500 Schuberth lid has looked better. It's probably ok as it was more a slide than a bang but as far as I'm concerned it's done it's job and it will be replaced. My shoulder's starting to stiffen up so the gel is on and I'll see how it is tomorrow. All in all I'm feeling fortunate. During the few seconds of sliding I was thinking "somethings gonna really hurt in a minute" and thought a car/van wheel or the bike may go over me. I'm very glad I was wrong. Not the evening I had planned for Mrs Scotty's birthday.
scooby_simon
.. perhaps people in the snow and ice should get some My skid lid was ace; but damaged now.... I'm going to invest in some race armour before skiing next year

Busby
Sorry to hear about this mate. As always with bike accidents, the man thing is that you're still around to tell the story The accident that made me sell up and buy the VXR8 instead of having a bike was a transit van smacking straight into the back of me while I sat stopped at an island waiting to pull out! I'll maybe get another one in a few years but starting thinking that after riding on the roads for quite a few years, maybe I'd used my luck up! Definitely repalce the lid - even the smallest knock can damage the cushioning under the shell and create a weak point. I took pictures of all my damaged gear and got the lot replaced by the van drivers insurance. I have a friend who runs a Hein gericke shop - he provided an estimate and the insurance company simply added it on to the claim. If you need something similar, let me know. Worth a trip to the doctors to get some real painkillers and get the injury documented too.
Scotty
Cheers mate. My kit is not too old (about 6-9 months) so I still have the receipts etc so I should be fine with proving the costs. I will be going to the quacks later as the shoulder is stiff and grinding. Calm Chris
I'm sure you are a compo chaser, but since there will be a claim for damage to bile and clothing you should build a claim for PI. You have been hurt by a 3rd party, and my logic is that part of the lesson for the wonker should be:- Reported to police for careless driving and illegal turn Full cost of repairs and replacement of personal items PI compo for injury, upset and time off work (take a few days off) Replacement wheels while yours is off road Hope the pain isn't too bad this morning
Mook
Bloody hell, Scotty - sorry to hear about this. Were you on the small or big bike? Ref Sam's comment - I understand them - they just don't f*cking look where they're going. And it's not just white van men.

Agree!, the amount of times I've nearly been hit by cars on my cycle is a joke. you get two types of drivers.. those that give you plenty of room and other f*ckers that try and clip you. Hopefully the damage to bike and gear is all fairly easily fixable/replaceable. Any chance of a due care charge for white van ****yboy?

Scotty
The driver did stop and details were exchanged after a bit of encouragment. i.e. "shall I call the Police?" All day so far has been spent on A&E and Police. Now I've got the form filling to do Police - neither Hackney nor my loca Police seemed that bothered! Both said since you've exchanged details it's now with the insurers. When I pushed and said what about careless/dangerous/illegal right turn they both said we may look into that which I strongly encouraged A&E - clavicle (collar bone)seems to have "popped" out of synch with the bone tendons etc around it. Three x-rays (one with a 5g weight pulling on it) and they can't see any fractures but think i have sublaxation i.e partial dislocation. They weren't sure in A&E so I have to go to the fracture clinic and see their shoulder specialist next Friday. Big toe nail looks like it will stay on. I just have to wait for the hematoma (i.e. bruise) to go down under the nail. I know my 4 year old will stand on it at some point! All in all things could be worse. S3bangs - you can keep your record acheivement cheers mate
