Andy_Bangle
Tom Ford wrote a piece in the Sunday Times about the 320d ED at the weekend, but I can't link to it as you have to pay for news access now however, BMW have printed up the story for free: The-1000-Mile-BMW BMW’s cleanest and greenest 3 Series ever has just completed a record-breaking journey from the UK to Munich and back - on one tank of fuel.Filled up at the Channel Tunnel, the new BMW 320d EfficientDynamics Saloon made it to Munich, then as far as Lille on the return leg – a staggering total of 1,013 miles on a single tank of fuel – before needing to be refuelled. SINGH
ooh that's impressive, makes me think. I only get 19ish MPG on my way to work and that's not even with hard driving & mostly 40/60/70 roads.
S3Bangs
Reading that, can someone explain to me kindly how turning the radio off saves fuel? I understand the aircon bit, but the radio? Oh and yes it's quite impressive. A car petrol companies will hate..
Tipex
Munich and back? Except it didn't did it, it only got half way back. Still good mileage for a car, albeit probably done in the dead of night, at a totally constant speed with no stopping and no weight in the car. Turning off the radio and anything else unnecessary reduces the draw on the alternator, and hence the amount of effort the engine uses to turn it. cruiser647
How far is Edinburgh and back (from London)? Remember Clarkson did this trip in the A8 4.0 V8 TDi on a single tank too. (albeit a big tank) Oh, and the JC in the Jag XF V6 TD on his trip to Blackpool.

(albeit a big tank)Oh, and the JC in the Jag XF V6 TD on his trip to Blackpool. Approx 800 miles... But I reckon the A8 will have a 90 litre tank whereas that 3 Series probably has a 60 litre.
