Does anyone know how accurate the the speedo is on a mk5 gti, New Zealand police have lowered there tollerance to 5% so any one doing over 105 kmh will get a ticket!

Not massively accurate. Some figures and a 'fix' are shown here.

I've measured mine numerous times and it reads 10% over which is annoying and all you end up doing is compensating for it.

I love one of the comments on that page from Toyota

“Toyota Japan do not accept built-in inaccuracy as they strive for perfection and therefore refuse to compromise for what are untimately non engineering but socio-political reasons"

Spot on +++

That's easy for Toyota to say. If you get caught in a Toyota you just need to say, "Sorry officer, I couldn't stop."

Does your GTi come with the digital readout for the climate control?

If it does then you can get a more accurate speed readout from there although it's out of your direct line of sight.

The readout from the climatronic on my R32 was spot on with what my Pogo Alert GPS was telling me I was doing.
