onegolf
I have a 2005 B5 estate - shortly after buying it I noticed the offside rear cluster had water in the bottom. I removed the cluster and shook the water out - but it is filling up again. Yesterday i stopped behind a similar passat at traffic lights - and noticed this had the same issue - again on the offside. Can anyone throw any light on how the water is getting in/ what do do about it?
TIDYDUBS
Firstly check the foam seal properly for a continuous bead and the little rubber washers are around the threaded parts. The other thing that happens with these is when they were new and went for servicing or repair retailers use a road film remover when the cars are washed and this does not do the bonding on the rear light units any good. Do you have a sunroof on your model? I think the bonding of the clear outer part could be failing allowing the ingress of water. Try a low pressure garden hose on it to see if it leaks then.
