Milo
I've just updated my Samsung galaxy s to 2.2, I'm loving the speech recognition for texting, is there anything else I need to know about? It has Flash 10.1 installed now, was that on 2.1?
Jez
Best thing I have found is the ability to turn your mobile into a WiFi hotspot
Milo
How does that work? For example, can I use my 3G connection as a wireless source for say an ipod touch?
Turrican
Yep that's right, I use that feature for our touch when on holiday. Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk
Milo
Superb, does anyone know I how can do it on the Samsung?
Turrican
You should see a 'wifi hotspot' application listed under your apps. Simple case of setting the name and password. It will only let about 2 devices concurrently connect I think.
Turrican
Also under 2.2 you won't need a task killer as its better at managing the applications and memory. You can move installed apps onto the SD card.
Milo
Great thanks, I will have a play. Good news on the app killer thing as that's one of the gripes I've had with the phone.
NewNiceMrMe
Great thanks, I will have a play. TRANSLATED: "An hour from now I'll be back to ask how to reset the phone when it crashes, and then I'll need to know how to recover everything from it." Milo
Many a true word... I nearly bricked the phone updating it! I need to download an app for the wifi thing so will wait until the morning when hopefully I will be able to focus properly.
Waylander
Have to point out I have been able to do these things on the oft-lambasted WinMo 6.5 for over a year. Mind you I have now started to dual boot my phone and Android 2.2 is a welcome upgrade over 2.1 for all the reasons above esp save to SD. Milo I would still recommend the App Killer though! billy2shots
My mate has a Galaxy S and he cant find how to update the software. On my htc its "About phone", "system Software" then check for updates. He swears he cant find it. Can anyone give me a step by step insruction for me to pass on, a real idiots guide please. craigyb
Currently software updates are done through a PC with the Samsung "Kies" software installed. You can update to 2.2 through that. Now I'm running 2.2.1 there is an "over the air" facility, but as I'm running a leaked ROM with patches for speeding up the kernel and filesystem there are no updates online available. I would suggest looking at the XDA developers website I9000 section if you want a blistering fast Galaxy.
Riz
Get you phones rooted guys and sample some of the great custom ROM`s out there. I`m currently running MIUI on my Desire and its miles better than the original one. Still drawn towards the iPhone design though. Riz :D
NewNiceMrMe
I just plug my iPhone in occasionally and I get new toys. It's all quite simple in the non-Droid world.

'Plug it in'....that's so last century..... what's wrong with the phone telling you its got an update and then downloading it over the air- 3g or wifi. It's just how you think it ought to be in the non-iPhone world Edit : Think I was by the pool in the south of France in August when I got my 2.2 update. Now that's service! (note : neither Google nor htc provided the pool. Sadly the cost was mine)

jimbutler
Updated my Galaxy S last night and found that it no longer liked my bluetooth in the car (Bury system 8), it connects fine but drops the connection after a few minutes, hitting the autoconnect icon on the handsfree connects it up again straight away. I can't find a bluetooth power setting in the menus (that was what my old windows phone did if power saving wasn't switched off), anyone else had BT problems??
