Dblanc
I configured a 3 dr Fiesta 1.6 Zetec S with metallic paint with the only options selected being aircon, a proper spare wheel at £50 an interior pack 2.No flashy alloys, no bluetooth, no parking sensors or any of that gubbins... Thing is that nobody ever pays list on a Ford, a quick look on drivethedeal show you would get 3K off that. 12.5K for a 1.6 Fiesta is not so bad, especially when you think of the size of it, it can't be far off the size of the original Focus
NewNiceMrMe
Ah, well that would go some way to make them sound more reasonable. I won't be buying one mind. I'd have to put too much money in with the 6 trade-in.

Mr Man
OMG...the last time I looked they were as cheap as chips......about 5 or 6yrs ago a friend wanted to buy a fiesta...she`d never bought a new car before and she asked me if I`d help look for a car and then haggle on her behalf......I`am sure she paid just under 6k for a 1.2 3dr base model....may have been less as Ford had a promotional offer at the time.....Anyway what ever she paid it was 2k off list...that figuer I do remember She wouldn't have got a new Fiesta for that sort of money 5 years ago, maybe a KA? Honest...it was in the region of 6k...err I think....but my memory has gone to pot...I`am actually curious as to what she did pay now....I`ll find out in the next few days and post the result...you may well be right of course...but what ever she paid I remember thinking it was a bargain. . Could have been 6k as I paid 7k for a 1.2 Polo in 2004 for my Dad. Still has it and it has only done 16k miles
Booster
The model that ran from about 99 to 2003ish was available for around that money. My sister had two of them (one stolen and one crashed!) and they were knocking them out very cheap.
shao_khan
I know its a perhaps daft suggestion but there is quite a lot of pre reg A1 1.2 TFSI cars around, the cheaper ones are only marginally above your budget, but they do have favourable finance on them at the moment so might be worth a look as I doubt it will lose much money in the next 12 months, I see projected residual is around 50%@36 months. MIght not be 'fun' but gives around 60mpg and group C or D tax so quite cheap on the pocket. Even ordering from Factory would get you one for April. I only mention this because I've been rempted by one as I need a 4 seat to replace my TT fairly quickly (or as well as maybe ) Alternatively how about my TT - thats under 10k and well looked after? NewNiceMrMe
I'm confused now. I just read something I didn't write, but thought I had. Then I realised it was Mr Man, not MrMe. Mr Man
I'm confused now. I just read something I didn't write, but thought I had. Then I realised it was Mr Man, not MrMe. I'm sure I have copyright on all use of the word Mr for user names on internet forums. I`d love to be able to change my user-name.....on other forums I post under the name shellsbluebikini......but for some unknow reason I decided to use the Mr Man on this site......However I know how you feel.....a work colleague was looking at a showbiz forum and saw my username....shellsbluebikini.....However it was an imposter...it was`t me....they`d been posting some gossip about Peter Andre and Katie Price....So someone out there in cyber land has piched the user-name I`d been using since 2004. NeilB
According to Parkers with their facts and figures, the 02-08 Fiesta started at about 8k.
steelwind101
The older Fiesta (rounder) was still avalible until about 55 as a lady who works as non techie has a '54 plater. I think Ford have plenty of stock they always have to shift! IIRC they were still selling the last of the Escorts on a 51 plate even though the Focus came on a 99 T! Maybe he got the one of the last "previous gen" rather then the new ones.

I`am sure it was this model....base spec; no options.....I did try and persuade her to upgrade in order to get Air con but she was having none of it....a decision she now regrets
DHA
So doing a bit more research (whilst still thinking of other options cash+small finance amount) the following has caught my internet browsing eye; Skoda Labia vrs (new 1.4 tsi version) vat free at the moment, a lot of car for 13.5k it would seem and economical to boot. Audi A1, massively subsidised finance deals from a quick look. 2 year deal which you would have to bin at the end due to a wildly optimistic guaranteed future value but for £225 a month for a 1.6 oil burner it sort of makes sense. My other options contain a 20k impreza (4wd you see, practical in our harsh winters) or a 330d touring as I miss my bmw toys.
NewNiceMrMe
Well, out of those I'd opt for the Impreza or the 330d.
cruiser647
But the Impreza is £20K.......... Anything small will mean expensive for what it is - 2nd hand. Does it have to be a small car?
DHA
Does it have to be a small car? No but with small my only expense would ideally be insurance and fuel

garcon magnifique
I assumed by "20k Impreza" you meant 20k miles? Almost certainly in budget. But also almost certainly nickable. In that budget you could do worse than a nearly new Feckus Titanium/Zetec diesel. Still a decent looker IMO, but cheap as chips to run and not so attractive to the local TWOCers.
