patently
Right, so here is the basic Caterham Academy car: Mainly in bare aluminium, there are just a few bits of fibreglass that, by default, are black - as shown in the pic. It is a no-cost option to have those in red or yellow, or some other colours that I'm not interested in. You can in fact have the whole car done in whatever paint job you want, but that costs £££s and just makes repairs harder. So mine will be in the basic colour scheme - but I can't decide whether to go for red or yellow. But of course, for a race car there is only one possible criterion. So, votes please! Which colour is fastest round a track? Votes will be considered but no guarantee is offered that the result will be followed. The Editor's decision is final. Your house is at risk if you do not vote early enough. May contain nuts. Do not vote while driving or operating machinery. Maxyboy
Red. More attractive come selling time too. There are a lot of yellow caterhams about.
Scotty
Fezza's are red. Caterhams are yellow (or BRG)
Mook
Should be just all ally (save weight) or yellow. Bright bloody yellow. Lush

patently
Paint is an unnecessary luxury - not needed in a race car Quite - which is why I'm going for the basic bare aluminium look, but I still have to chose a colour for the fibreglass bits. Also, Mook's point is valid about not spending money on fancy bits for the car, but spending it on track practice instead. If so many Caterhams are yellow, then than means red is more tempting. Partly because it will stand out more on track, and partly because I'm a contrarian so-and-so.
Mook
Shimmy's brother's Caterham is just all ally - looks great.
TIDYDUBS
Well i think Flynns PEUDOG is much faster than any Caterham you care to drive ....SURELY?
DHA
Sorry I am going to have to say neither, clearly a 306 diesel, turbo charged, on part worns, with extra dials, and an advanced driver at the wheel, will win the caterham academy
patently
Yes, I'll be watching out carefully for them in my rear-view mirror. Mind you, at least they'll have no trouble overtaking me perfectly.

Although i agree with Scotty's post about Caterhams should be yellow Out of interest what are the other no cost option colours that you wouldn't be interested in ? patently
Out of interest what are the other no cost option colours that you wouldn't be interested in ? Black, which isn't a colour, and green, which is an unlucky colour for cars.
lesK
Definately Yellow
Tarmac_Terrorist
I appreciate paint is not necessary on a race car but I think it kind of 'deserves' a colour. Yellow - very polular and looks good. Be different and go for red. I read somewhere that red cars develop 3-5 bhp more than other colours (3-5 bhp depending on shade of red - brighter the more powerful)
Scotty
That generally only works if the paint is applied the to the engine.

patently
Green is unlucky? Yes, apparently the leprechauns object to you stealing their colour, so retaliate by inflicting bad luck on you.
patently
I've voted red, but just looked for some pics and now I can't decide Those pics are quite helpful, actually - thanks. The yellow car has clearly lost a rear wheelarch somehow and replaced it with a black one, though.
Maxyboy
Going by those pictures , the yellow doesn't handle too well and I've changed my mind on the red. I vote black.
garcon magnifique
Yep, definitely looks like the red one stays on the grey bit better... Honestly, I think I'd probably go with red for the same reason you mentioned - everyone goes for yellow.
