Hello All,

I am looking to buy an A5 Sport from the Audi dealer for around £21,000. How much of a discount should I be looking at?

Also it would be interesting to know how much discount other people in this forum got from Audi and how much was paid.

Any info would be great.

Thanks

If it's a good salesman/woman, you won't get any discount.

But don't tell them you'll offer them 'x' for it. Ask them what's the best price they'll let you have it for and then negotiate down from there. If you can't get the price you want, thank them for their time, stand up and pass them a business card so they can call you if they change their mind and walk away. It's a buyer's market at the minute.

And don't, just don't get them to sort out a finance deal for you if you're looking for one, because you'll get shafted on that as well. It just happens that Booster above can help you with car finance, because that's what he does for a living.

Good advice Mook and cheers for the plug +++

Only thing is, its not a buyers market, its a strange, fecked up market where dealers are not willing to let cars go cheap as they can't replace them as decent used stock is very hard to find!!

Cars: Can't buy new ones as the waiting lists are too long, can't buy used ones as they won't discount them!! Unbelievable!!

My mate just chopped his Q7 in against an A6. The difference between the Q7 px value and what it's for sale now is a whopping £7k and of course they're making on the A6 (he got £1500) off list.

He admits he was severly buggered!!

There's money to be saved if you play the game. I'm actually not sure how much of a buyers game it is at the moment. Decent second hand cars seem to be in a lot of demand.

Honest answer? Yes. But it all depends on how well and how hard you negotiate.

But think about it for a minute - you're asking for the best part of 10% discount.

totally reasonable. aim for 10-15%+ at least. never pay ticket price or even close to it.

So what?

That's the key to good sales (this isn't meant to be teaching egg sucking).

Completely regardless of the gross profit, if someone gives you the signs they want something, they get enough added value (be that discount or extras) to clinch the deal, but no more.

Any good salesman will give the minimum discount.

Maybe a few years ago Chav but certainly not now. There are plenty of dealers not moving one inch on used prices. They know that they will have difficulty replacing that car and that as there is a shortage of good used cars, they will sell theirs for the asking price.

Unusually, dealers are welcoming part exchanges as they have another car to replace the one they have sold.

So many dealers are chasing the same cars at auction or online that the prices are being shoved up. There is only so much of this increased cost that can be passed on to the end purchaser so they are working on smaller margins and hence the chances of getting 10% off a £21k car are slim to none!
