X6 Fuel Economy

12 posts in this topic

What's the most economic X6? I think it may be the Xdrive 30D is that right? Claiming a combined 38 mpg? Sounds pretty good to me... But is this realistic? What are people getting in the real world? Driving round town like, and also what can you get on the motorway, if you really try?

While we're on the topic, could someone just run through what the models all mean please? 30D, 35D etc etc. There's a 3.0D Xdrive, then a Xdrive 30D too - what does that all mean? What is the difference??

Thanks.

X6 is great... I'd have another without question!

I had the 30d and driven like a hooligan I averaged c32mpg, but it was mapped to 300bhp! Stock you'll get 30mpg round town and on a motorway 38mpg, if you're sat at 55mph, over 40mpg!

Engines are:

3.5i - Twin turbo petrol

30d (3.0d) - Single turbo diesel

35d (3.0sd) - Twin turbo diesel

4.8I - V8 petrol

New model (Sept 10)

30d - Single turbo diesel

40d - Twin turbo diesel

50d - Twin turbo petrol V8

BMW combined figures have always been pretty accurate for me.

With the 20" Alloys they handle too, just make sure there's plenty of tread on the tyres and disks look good... very expensive to change.

Compared to the Q7, it's a racing car!!!

I got 28/30MPG normal driving (35D Sport) with the Remapped engine I got the same but with better power.

Hard driving soon drops this, Never got high MPG as I got bored @65MPH.

Have you still got the Q7? And the same reasons you are thinking of changing will apply to this X6 won't it?

No, I sold the Q7. I wasn't getting enough out of it to justify the running costs. 6 months tax cost me £240 and I struggled to get more than 28mpg on a run. And it was just another black Q7. I downgraded, and now I already want to upgrade again. My A3 Sportback is great, returns 40-50 mpg, but I feel like I'm in my little brothers car.

The X6 is a car I will enjoy owning and being in. I realise in terms of running costs it may only save me say £600 a year, but psychologically I will feel much happier getting 38mpg than 28mpg! Lol.

Would you though? Realistically speaking?

Ouch! Ours is 27/28 round town and 34/35 on the motorway. That's without driving like a tart!

Fiona has a got an X1 and she gets 42mpg going between our shops, when I take it I get nearly 60mpg.

No offense to women, but they can't drive!

I hate being a passenger with women, the constant braking and then jamming the throttle down again is just so annoying.
