So what do you think of this new BMW then ?

Say hello to the new 1 series, well shortly to be re-badged 2 series. Those headlights are way to big for that front end, looks like they have grafted the front of a 7 series on to it. As with the 5 series GT, I don't think this is one of BMW's finest models !

These official photos along with the first details showed up on a German website called Motor Traffic, as BMW has not yet made an announcement... because it's so fecking ugly!

Seen here in a five-door format, the new 1-Series evolves the current model’s styling with sharper and more prominent creases all around along with a much more pronounced front end that sports unusually large headlamps pushed to the far corners of the bumper literally hugging the wheel arches.

According to the leaked information, the new 1-Series rides on a 85mm (3.3-in.) longer platform that brings the total length of the car to 4,320mm (170-in.). The cargo area has increased by 30 litres, from 330 to 360 litres, while passengers should also feel more comfortable thanks to the longer platform.

Perhaps the most important news about the 2012 BMW 1-Series is the introduction of a brand new 1.6-litre turbocharged gasoline engine. The German website reported that new powerplant will be available on the 116i with an output of 136-horses and on the 118i with the same displacement but with 170-horses. Diesel options are said to include a 2.0-litre turbo diesel with 116HP, 143HP and 184HP.

The 1-Series is scheduled to premier at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show.

Looks as though it has run into a wall at the front :-)

Let's just say she'll have a nice personality, no doubt

See I don't think the front looks too bad its the flabby rear that looks poor to me, the interior looks a nice step up from the current one.

It will probably grow on me....I initially thought the 1 series was pig ugly...but I quite like it now...especially the sporty models...with bigger wheels and lowered suspension.....I loved DHA 135i coupe....less said about what happened to that car the better.

You see, this is typical of how BMW engineers are able to push the envelope in a way that leaves VAG floundering in their wake.

No-one would have thought it possible that they could make the 1-series uglier.

:P

Sweet Jesus that looks like it's been hit with the ugly stick from the front

But here's the thing with BMWs - they've all grown on me, with the exception of the 5 GT, which should be led to the nearest home for mingers and shot. I really like the 1 series now, esp the coupe.

Oh no. I always thought, that with a bit of a tweak, the first One Series could be a real looker and maybe they'd get it right the second time round. But no, they just mated it with Quasimo and produced this hideous freak.

Hovis loaves are bigger now so need a bigger van

It's grown in bulk because BMW are introducing a smaller car below this. The current 1-series size will eventually become the new 2-series.

Nice to see the Peugeot/BWM engines coming through in to the mainline BMW's, the 1.6T is pretty nice.

Super bland car though!

Exterior looks wonky, but I never like the SE models... sure the MSport will look good.

Interior is a big step forward... lets hope they put the 6cyl engines in...

New? It's a 1 series?

It's interesting what's happening to car sizes isn't it. I was in a queue of traffic next to an E30 M3 over the weekend - it looked tiny compared to mine.

There won't be many as most of the current 6cylinder models are being replaced by blown 4s :-(

Aha, so NOW I know. BMW deliberately designed the new 1-series as an ugly car...

...so you have to pay more for the M-package so it doesn't look so bad! :( (Just like on the X1)

Naughty these BMW people!
