Mr Man
A friend of mine pointed this ad out to me last night....he bought an RD 250 for £1,100 in 1981....maybe he should have left it in the living room....on second thought...maybe not!! YAMAHA RD UNREGISTERED AND DRY STORED
burble
I have a soft spot for the RD250 but if I had one (or 5 or however many this chap had) I'd be out riding it, not putting it in the lounge.
Tipex
Not much of an investment really, over 30 years given the rate of inflation, and that dealer has it for £10k, so will have probably given him £8k or so for it!
Scotty
It's only worth anything like that if you're not gonna ride it. If you are then the price will fall through the floor in no time. I guess someone may pay the premium to recapture their youth.
Mr Man
I agree...it was hardly an investment...and it`s value will plummet the moment you knock it into first gear....It was more the fact that he left it in his living room for 30yrs...although the dealer probably used a bit of artistic license when writting the ad.....Personally I could`t have resisted having one final blast on a 2 stroke from a different era. garcon magnifique
RDs were made to be ridden and crashed.
Mort
oooh I used to lust after those bikes... Its a shame 2 strokes are being killed off.... there would still be a big demand for a well sorted 2 stroke sport bike.
Cuprabob
I also lusted after one of these when I was at school but managed to get my 2 stroke fix a few years later with a RGV250. I still love the sound of a 2-stroke on full song and the smell of 2 stroke oil :-)
burble
RGV250 The first bike I ever rode! My brother had one but I couldn't find a decent one so bought an RS250 instead.
Biscuits
I missed the RD era and had a TZR125, then TZR250. Love the smell of Castrol R 2-stroke oil Crashed my mates RGV250 :S

burble
Allegedly RS250 was better I preferred the RS250. The RGV250 was a bit cheaper to buy and insure and when I was 18 that mattered.
Mort
I never had a 2 stroke road bike (just as well because I probably wouldnt be here now).... but there are ways of making up for that. This weekend I bought this little beaut for my son who wants to get in to track riding. Its a Suzuki RG125. Properly sorted for streetstock racing and has won a few championships here. Great little bike. Goes well and its very light (about 115kg). Nice an easy to ride but can be made to go quite quick. Should be great fun. mb
It is only really suitable for a museum as if you rode it, would probably seize up anyway as carb intakes will be perished, oil pump fail etc. or if not the single disc was horrible & the rubber hoses used to expand without 30 years of aging thrown into the mix Nice to see a classic LC again but in no way is it worth 10k even to a collector as it doesn't look like a "real" LC as is lacking 350 upgrade, Swarbricks, big carbs, drop bars & crash damage... Its amazing any bike exists that is older than 1981 therefore....
