A lot depends on the type of driving. You'll not see much more than 24-25 commuting, 28-32 on a run.

Biggest disappointment (well, apart from under steer ;) ) was the mpg I got from the S3... that 2.0TFSI engine likes a drop of the good stuff

Are these figures for R32s?

Was the OP enquiring for Golf R, or Golf R32?

I checked on the long term MFD on my Golf R yesterday (37 hours driving) and it was showing exactly 30 mpg.

That's been mostly commuting and A road type stuff and no long motorway journeys.

On the Rforum, people regularly get over 40mpg on long journeys.

Ignore what the computer says, measuring it tank to tank yourself is the only accurate way, and it'll be less, hopefully not a lot less, but it will be less.

I stopped doing that when I realised how much less. I prefer the computer lying to me. :P

Yes was interested in Golf R, not R32. I had an original R32 and could see the dial going down as I was driving. Wondered if the R was better.

I was achieving 32 mpg in the new R on a long run - fairly brisk driving on open roads coupled with stop start driving too. Not too bad. +++
