Six Months with the E92 M3

There are a few Massers round my way when I'm in London (Richmond area) and they look absolutely gorgeous. However, testament to garcon's comment about them being for old men - the MD here had one and he is 64.

Disagree - had my Quattroporte GTS at the grand old age of 33. Great for pulling!

And you'd be hard pressed to find a better sounding V8!

How much was your oil service in the end Mac?

Came back to Edinburgh from the Lakes today along some quite nice roads - gave me a chance to open her up a bit and felt like I took a step towards understanding it a bit more. It is against my instincts to leave it up to 8000 rpm at the moment!

Dunno yet - had to cancel and reschedule for next week. Still have 1k+ to go till it's needed anyway.

Will let you know when it's done.

 great write up mate, missed you posting it when I was away +++

Surely the best bargain Pork around at the moment has to be a 997 GT2, 2008, 9k miles, PCCB's - for £75k? linky :jump:

If only it didn't have the stickers and was in a nicer colour! Love the GT2 but I don't think that shows it off at all well.

Puff or should that be poof. Andrew get a grip, or not as the case maybe and start reving the fecker like you stole it. It's all part of the joy, if it's outside your comfort zone find wide spaces and commit on the undertsnad that error with wide road = margin for safe error.

Yeah yeah, poof, I know. Thing is, I can't afford another one if I stuff it! I'll get there ... albeit more slowly than most on here!

The 8k comment by the way was just that you (or I) get tempted to change up early. It takes an actual thought at the moment for me to leave it revving to over 8k.

For a plain and simple oil service? You must have had more done ...

I'd expect brake fluid, spark plugs and the inspection too for that price. Prices seem to vary hugely for the various servicing elements the M3 needs which is why I was interested.

Here you go. Had spark plugs & stuff done too.

Mac - you supplied your own oil for this didn't you? Also, the manual says they change the manual transmission oil which I can't see done on yours. I'm particularly interested as mine needs exactly what yours had done, based on age rather than mileage, in May. Along with the tax (both cars), insurance (both cars), MOT (both cars). Christmas has nothing on May!

Missed this, thanks +++

Transmission oil was done at the previous oil change from the look of it.

It is, but consider that it is condition based servicing and therefore in my case (won't be the same in Mac's case, he does many more miles) I'll pay probably £1,000 in servicing between now and May but that will be it for 24 months. And the one Mac shows there is particularly expensive because he needed spark plugs doing which won't need doing now until the oil service after the next one. In my case that could be 4 years.

So if not used for mega miles the servicing is still expensive, but maybe not as much as you might think.

Actually, I'm probably just sensitising/deluding myself for my first experience at the hands of the M servicing division ...

This :P

My first 6 months miles were some 13k - a 4l V8 is not the car to do that sort of mileage in. Project done now though so mileage should plumet - only spent about 300 quid on fuel last month, that's less than half my previous spend.
