Breathalyser Law in France

3 posts in this topic

Beware.

According to Erin Baker (Telegraph Motoring Section - Page M9), after the 1st July this year, all drivers will be required to carry a breathalysewr in his/her car (maybe motorcycle?). It is expected to be a "single-use kit, so presumably we shall need to carry more than one just in case we actually use the only one we have got on board. The fine is Euro11.00 which is not huge but the aggravation of the paperwork will be a joy to behold!

How much more do the French authorities think that we can carry in our cars. Warning triangles, Hi-viz jackets (for all), First Aid kit and spare bulbs (which we probably cannot change at the roadside anyway) to name but a few.

Perhaps the best idea will be to not go to France at all! Go somewhere which is less bureaucratic and more driver/rider friendly.

It was touched upon in this thread http://www.tyresmoke.net/forum/general-cars/135180-tomtom-french-speed-camera-database.html?highlight=France

Always good to another heads up, will be driving through France on my way back to Sweden next month.

To quote Jeremy Clarkson on the French

Yes, to be born French really is to win second prize in the lottery of life. Your wife will have hairy armpits. You will have to converse in a stupid language, in which a table is somehow female. You will know that you have lost every war in which you’ve been involved for 900 years. You will be forced to eat horses and you will not be allowed to eliminate your taxes by moving to Monaco.
