BMW M5 Review

I would imagine the M3 was a bit heavier being newer, and wasn't it a cab? Still a good show from the M5 though, 400bhp I think?

I had an E46 M3 Coupe for 9 months before I bought the E46 M3 Cab. The Coupe was manual, the Cab was SMG.

The M5 in E39 guise was definitely heavier than the M3. It's a fair old size. I'd say probably 100kg, maybe a bit more even.

But yes it did well in a straight line and there was nowt between them from second gear onwards (to 70mph, naturally).

The bhp/weight pretty much even things out. The M5 has 400, the M3 has 343. The M5 is heavier. So no surprise really but I do recall thinking at the time I was impressed.

In fact, here she be...

M3 Coupe 1

M3 Coupe 2

Plenty of rear room too

I liked that car. Changing to the cab was a mistake. Not much difference in performance at all and SMG was better than manual in my opinion, but the Coupe was the all-round better car.

I think I may have set some kind of a record for the longest gap between test drive and purchase? :roflmao:
