Londonusa68
My mate at work has a VW Golf. It's been running fine with out any issues until lately. Every time he stops the car (whilst leaving the engine running). If he opens the front passenger door the engine will cut out and will start up again once the door opens. He is mystified why this happens and it has myself puzzled too. This issue has only recently started. Anyone got any ideas why this could be? cabby
What happens if he opens the rear passenger door? I'd try different combinations of doors and the boot to see what happens. Perhaps try including the glovebox as well.

JonC
If he opens the front passenger door the engine will cut out and will start up again once the door opens. Don't open the passenger door. Problem solved, happy motoring for your 'mate at work'
NewNiceMrMe
Oddly enough a little googling reveals this has been reported a number of times and tends to be as a result of people fitting non-VW relays to the car. Installing genuine OEM relays is said to fix it. Apparently, the non genuine relays seem to cause issues with something called ICRS (Intelligent Crash Response System) causing the car to think it's had an accident and shut the engine down. Weird or what?
