I ran my 2.0 TFSI with 95 ron almost all of the time, it was a company car and it never missed a beat once. It did run better and freer when it had Optimax in it. The difference was minimal but enough to feel it sometimes, if you are just sitting on a motorway and not having a play often I personally really wouldn't bother with the good stuff. +++

Have been so busy this weekend, I've hardly even had much chance to drive it, let alone take a few photos. Here's one I snapped quickly yesterday morning.

First impressions? Well, I've heard that 911s are the everyday supercar, but this has three seats in the back and a big boot. Right now, I honestly don't know if I'll ever need another car. More power than I've ever had at my disposal before and there really is plenty there  A couple of slip roads round here have become my new favourite roads :eclipse: And even in sixth at 70 on the M Way, a small lapse in concentration could very easily see blue flashing lights in the rear view mirror.

Reading that back, it's like I'm writing a review for something exotic, but I've never really driven anything like it on the road. I've driven "nippy" city cars before and have the Z3 which is a great cruiser, but this car is the first car that feels fast to me.

More pics (and words you probably won't read) later.

You can see why the engine won engine of the year a couple of years in a row, its a great unit with plenty of power low down where you really need it day to day.

And a nice squirt later on too :D

I start off very sensible and so the other car I was considering and test drove was the mk6 1.6 tdi. No power at all until 1500, then everything until 2000 when you have to change gear. Completely different mindset needed to drive that. Is that what all diseasels are like?

I wasn't aware it had won Engine of the Year. If that's the main IEoTY award then that's quite an achievement. I knew the 1.4 litre unit had, but had no idea the GTi engine had won it.

I believe it was the winner in 2005, 2006 and 2007 in the 1.8 - 2 litre class ( petrol or diesel).

Memory is not great but I think the V10 m5 lump beat it to overall in 05 or 06. Still not bad for a mass produced lump.

The M engines usually win overall. The 1.4 TSI did well IIRC, btu that's about as far as my knowledge goes on EotY awards.

Ah, it won the category class. I'm with you now. I thought you meant the main award.+++
