A diesel M car? Wash your mouth out with soap, Sir...

Are we saying the X6 M50d and X5 M50d are not real M cars? :roflmao:

I think there's also an M550d sold in Germany?

I'm guessing there'll be an Alpina D4 with the same engine as the new D3. That should be quite swift. :P

I looked at the figures on that page and thought "they look wrong" - and not just the tank capacity (which I hadn't noticed in all honesty).

57 litres is teeny weeny tiny!

Tbh seeing as Audi have launched the SQ5 diesel, I'm surprise they haven't put the same engine in the S4 too. Maybe they wanted to gauge reaction to the SQ5 first before daring the meddle with the S4?

Tank on the E92 is 61 litres. According to BMW site data (which is clearly dubious!) the 4 series has either 57 or 60 litres depending on model.

The 5 series is 70 litres. That gives me a range of around 700 miles.

So a 57 litre tank, on a car doing 40 mpg it's still going to have a range of over 500 miles.

I suspect the reduced tank size is because they can do it due to increased efficiency.  It might be a small tank on a V8, but on a super-efficient diesel it is going to be more than adequate.

Smaller tank also means less weight which in turn contributes to greater efficiency

Off the interweb, according to the brochure for the F30, the petrol variants have a tank capacity of 60 litres while the diesels have 57...

Why are we getting bogged down with fuel tank/range when the 435d xDriver rockets 0-62 in 4.7...!? Thats amazing, 620NM of torque, half a second quicker than the petrol *and* that MPG figure! +++

Someone posted a video recently of Chris Harris racing an AMG 4x4 thingy towing a Fiesta ST against a Fiesta ST, the ST won (kind of defeating the point of the video), but I couldn't help womdering why they didn't choose a Diesel 4x4.

That Diesel torque from one of the daft but stonking v12 diesels or something similar probably wouldn't have even noticed the car on a trailer behind it and done the same 0-60 as it would have without the car on a trailer behind it.
