McLaren's P1

I can't remember who on TSN was saving up for one of these, but..........  too late.  You won't be able to buy a new one anymore.

The McLaren P1 has sold out, with the remaining few examples for sale in Europe now snapped up.

All examples of the P1 destined for the Americas, Asia Pacific and the Middle East had already been sold earlier this year.

The continued economic uncertainty in Europe has been put down as the reason why the P1 took longer to sell in Europe.

McLaren received a sales push for the P1 in North America on the back of its appearance at the Pebble Beach after a McLaren F1 sold for $8.47 million at an auction, raising interest in the firm. Confirmation that the P1 had lapped the Nurburgring in under seven minutes earlier this month is believed to have prompted another raft of sales.

Potential customers are now being asked to register their interest with McLaren, lest any of the existing buyers change their plans during the build process. To date, 12 McLaren P1s have been completed.

Around 75 per cent of P1 customers have opted for some level of unique design from McLaren Special Operations, pushing the average sale price of a P1 above £1 million.

The bloke who did the handling told me "it achieved its objectives", nothing more. He was at the Ring when the run as done, knows the time, but played the party line. I guess if sub-7 is the aim, it might mean the Porsche wasn't beaten although the rapturous applause the driver gives himself in that video makes me think it was a more significant time.

I thought the aim was for plenty less than 7 mins.

Personally I think they are keeping their powered dry until LaFerrari does its runs. The Porsche is heavier and less powerful than the other two and I can't see the aero of the P1 letting it down on the track either.

Not sure it make the best noise though the LaFerrari seems to sounds delightful by comparison.

Bring back the original F1.  :P

You're right apparently CarMad - they're not releasing the actual numbers until that there Ferrari have run the TheFerrari around that there the Nürburgring +++

That might be never!

IIRC, Ferrari don't play the German/Brit game of run around the 'ring - they do comparisons to their other cars (road & F1) @ Fiorano...

So, what would you have then. A choice of the LF, 918 or P1. No "I'd buy X Y Z cars with the money instead" comments.

(cue X Y Z with the money comments)

918 would make a great daily shitter, laf for wk ends. No interest in Macca.

Laf already rumours of premiums around 2m. P1 some think it will level at around 500k quite quick as too similar to 12c and follow similar depreciation curve. 918, will be interesting to see what happens with price but suspect they will not hold.

It's strange, as a Ferrari fan I'm really not that excited by La Ferrari. I'm not sure of its looks, it's a stupid name and I suppose as a halo Ferrari it just seems unobtainable. And why would I bother when the 458 and F12 are so good?

As for which between La Ferrari, Mac P1 and Pork 918, a hypothetical question if ever there was one. I assume La Ferrari is literally unobtainable as one needs to be "invited" to own one. The last McLaren road car that held any interest for me was built in the mid 90s. That leaves the 918 and leading edge Porsche engineering. That'll do for me. I was a fan of the Carrera GT and the 918 is even better in every way.

Having said that, if you threw a Pagani Huayra into the mix I'd have that instead. Proper old school mentalist car.

I think I'd have to go LF. From some angles it is stunning (from others, not so). I wonder how many people have actually managed to test drive them all!

There are some guys on the other forum I use that have done the 918 and P1 but I don't think anyone has had a crack on the LaF +++

Personally I too would go La Ferrari - its off the charts looks wise and I think a safe bet to say the fastest too - win all round!
