m4ttm4son
It'll be simple. No one will ever sell a car with tax already on it. Make sure you check it has an MOT and you could get it taxed from your mobile!
SirTK
If they put it on fuel there'd be several thousand DVLA staff with extra time on their hands. There again, would anyone be able to tell the difference. Edited December 7, 2013 by SirTK

Make sure you check it has an MOT and you could get it taxed from your mobile! The only benefit to the new system is that we can finally move on from tax being from the 1st of the month. Surely the new system will mean you can tax your car from any date? ie tax from 7th December 2013 to 6th December 2014

Surely the new system will mean you can tax your car from any date? ie tax from 7th December 2013 to 6th December 2014 We can, but will we? Which is more likely... (a) The new system is totally flexible, refunds to the previous owner at a daily rate, and allows the new owner to tax the car from the collection date onwards. OR (b) the previous owner gets a refund from the end of the month in which the sale is made but the new owner has to tax it from the start of the month in which he collects it... NewNiceMrMe
Ah ye of such lack of foresight. I posted it like that so if someone dropped into this in January and didn't look at the post date they'd know, as well as the relevance of it today. patently
Well, the plans are being set out - Telegraph article So, surprise surprise, it does indeed look like DVLA will collect an extra month of road tax every time a car is sold. Anyone who is surprised, report to my office for a slap. Edited August 12, 2014 by patently
c_j
personally- i cant wait to have no legal obligation to display an utterly ugly, and worthless, circle of paper in the window of my vehicle- shame we still have to pay the tax lol
Tipex
I intend to leave my expired disc in the window! Purely because it makes me feel like a rebel, even though the tax is all up to date.

Purely because it makes me feel like a rebel, even though the tax is all up to date. Dont be surprised if that is considered an offence from 1st October, it will probably be somewhere in the small print, and carry an accompanying monetary fine Apparently the car cloners are thrilled with this new law, as all you need now are a set of number plates and no tax disc now, as the APNR system cannot register or flag up two vehicles with the same number plate being on the road on the same day, and not even if registered at the same time

garcon magnifique
Having put a brand new one in yesterday I shall continue to display mine for the next 12 months (minus a day). It somehow seems like a waste not to.
