And if he really knows his Alfas, it'll have a little Q2 badge on the back.

As for mid teens MPG, i'd be surprised if that's all you can get from a GTA, even my old 75 3.0 V6 did mid 20's.

2007 M3 is 343 hp.  You meant the E36 not the E46?

Yes, the E36.

The Alfa 156 overlapped both ranges.

Lol, still one of the best looking cars on the road though, the wheel/arch gap is just about perfect.

It makes the story I overheard him telling a colleague of his even more bizarre though!

He was recounting how he'd kept up with a Vectra VXR 'no problem'.  So now I know that isn't going to have happened if the Alfa has around 170 bhp tops?

The VXR is around 250 bhp standard and is a surprisingly rapid car in my experience.

I can keep up with a McLaren P1 in my 318d - no problem, in traffic.

It is a thing of beauty undoubtedly, but for me, there is something about the proportions of the 159 I really like.

I can see me buying a V6 one once the values drop a bit more.

I'd missed your '2007' bit... as the 159 had replaced the 156 before then.

Our 156 is an oddity as it's registered on a 56 plate, the last 156s should have been 05s, I recall.

There never was a 159 GTA, but there was a V6, using a GM / Alfa V6, rather than the old Busso.

Work mate had a 159 JTDM. There's an Alfa chip that'll take it to 200bhp. If it smokes like fook it's probably got that.

I was surprised when it said "Grey" as the colour.  It is much more of a shitty brown than anything else.

I've never looked that closely to be honest but it may just be the light.  It's a pretty car, just a horrible colour in my view.

You might as well buy the 2.4 JTD with 200 bhp to start with.  (and benefit from the 5 cylinder sound)

Especially as they are all so cheap.  Unless you are stuck on a compnay car list.

Whilst there 2.4 5-pot is a great engine - it's very thirsty for a diesel.

Always thought Alfa should have developed the 20v petrol for installation in the 156 and 159.
