patently
Calling all you knowledgeable Mac people. My Macbook has just asked me if I want to upgrade to OXS Mavericks for free. Is this a no-brainer or should I run away?
Andy_Bangle
Strange that you haven't got it already as it's been out since October last year, I thought you only recently purchased it? You should upgrade to fix the security issues in whatever version you're running, Mountain Lion (OSX 10.8)?
patently
Was bought second-hand. Thanks
Rachel
It fixes a lot of things for a lot of folk Mr. P. especially if you have a laptop. the battery life improvements are pretty impressive. I will admit to not upgrading any of mine though, as my work machines once set and stable never get interfered with w.r.t. OS X "upgrades". I'll upgrade later this year with a new laptop. NewNiceMrMe
I've upgraded to Mavericks. Largely pointless in day to day use, it must be said. However, when it is free, why not?
drpellypo
I noticed a big improvement in performance when I upgraded. Don't know if that was just because it was a clean OS, but definitely better.
NewNiceMrMe
I didn't see any performance increase, either on my desktop Mac or laptop. That said, the laptop is an SSD based Macbook so everything 'just happens' anyway. However, the desktop is SATA based but I didn't get any gains. drpellypo
Definitely noticed a difference on the Mac mini. But then again I don't think I had updated it since I first bought it, so it might have been needing some crucial updates which were done with the mavericks install. I tend to ignore everything a computer tells me I should do.
bison
The only i got from it was that it massively improved the use of a second screen on my laptop. You couldn't use both of them properly before mavericks and now they work completely joyously independently, which is nice. Other than that, didn't really notice much difference.
