Cuprabob
2.5 litre 5 pot dumped in favour of 2.0 litre 4 pot First deliveries predicted Summer.2018:-) http://www.worldcarfans.com/114042573994/audi-rs3-getting-four-cylinder-20-tsi-with-400-ps---report Edited April 26, 2014 by Cuprabob

Ian_C
I'd take anything WCF write with a pinch of salt. They previously said the RS3 would already be on sale by Spring 2014 in three or five door with a 2.5 straight five.... http://www.worldcarfans.com/112102549807/new-audi-rs3-coming-in-2014---report http://www.worldcarfans.com/113100463839/audi-rs3-mule-caught-in-the-open I remember commenting on this when the black Sportback mule pictures surfaced October 2013. There is no way Audi would introduce the RS so soon after the S.
eldavo69
Audi need to do a "Mark 5 Golf Gti" with the next RS3 and make something worthy of the name otherwise they may as well not bother. Never has an RS model been so meh
garcon magnifique
We need a gullible twat test to choose who goes to an Audi dealer to insist on putting a deposit down on a model that doesn't exist yet. And then five years of hopeless internet forum threads swapping rumour after desperate rumour. Possibly.
Mac
Oh, you mean the shouty man? He never order anything, never took delivery of anything, and just shouted a lot.
Paul
Would be a shame to loose the 2.5 5cyl. Perhaps they are planning to use the Golf R 400 concept engine, I cant see it coming out in a VW guise any time soon. http://www.vwvortex.com/news/volkswagen-news/beijing-auto-show-2014-volkswagen-r-400-study/ Edit: Added link. hashluck
An interesting discussion on the engine options http://fourtitude.com/news/Audi_News_1/spied-audi-rs-3-sportback-new-rumors-2-0-tfsi-high-output-power/
garcon magnifique
I can't help thinking we won't see both the Golf R400 and the RS3, given they're effectively the same car.
Ian_C
Agree it would be a shame to lose the straight five. I've not driven an RS3 (old shape) but I have driven a TT RS and I have to say the torque and power and soundtrack was intoxicating. Never will I take the mickey out of a TT RS ever again! 125% of the 2.0 litre straight four, but 1000% more special. As a few of you know, it was a 400 lb ft S2 that got me hooked on fast quattro Audis. (any excuse to post a vintage straight five clip.........) When I heard a straight five was making its return I hoped it would be ready for the B8 S4. Sadly it arrived six or 12 months later in the TT RS. If the straight five is carried over for the next gen TT RS and RS3, this massive increases the chances of the B9 S4 using it also. The engine fits longitudinally
Cuprabob
I can't help thinking we won't see both the Golf R400 and the RS3, given they're effectively the same car. But then the same could be said about the Golf R and S3 and allegedly the forthcoming Leon Cupra R.
garcon magnifique
This is true. I guess the market can cope with both Golf R and S3. Not sure it can cope with two fifty grand Golfs.

Ian_C
Hmmmmmmm, Autocar still saying it will be a straight five despite all the recent comments about it being a blown four. Certainly hope so, but only time will tell I guess! Has the potential to be absolutely blinding. Recent Audi S and RS models have been superb, and I have to say the current S3 was probably the one that surprised me the most.

Ian_C
At least the RS3 will be better for this engine than a further tuned four pot

Ian_C
Same with the new M3 M4 - more torque - but less soul
Twinspark
I really like the A3 Sportback and Saloon. The Sportback really does have shades of the old Audi Avants - you can see the RS2 DNA in there. The saloon looks very generically like an Audi saloon, but it's a very neat and cohesive design. shao_khan
Agree it would be a shame to lose the straight five. I've not driven an RS3 (old shape) I thought the old shape RS3 was just well average if I'm honest, I drove one on the same track with a 135 and 335 and to be honest I'd have either of the BMWs in preference, the RS3 wasn't bad, but I guess it just felt like I was sat in my S3 from all those years back with a better soundtrack but it didn't feel better on the road. Ive been out in a couple of the saloons and I really like them, feels nice inside and I think looks good, but then I prefer saloons to hatchback / estates anyway. RS3 saloon would be good. Paul
Really hoping they put an RS3 badge on the clubsport concept, and release it as a saloon. It looks like Audi might be interested to see how the clubsport concept is accepted. New RS3 hints from Audi discussed here. http://www.topgear.com/uk/car-news/new-audi-rs3-2014-6-26 Must .......start .......saving.....
