Mrs CarMads new car?

So we have been all set to order a shiny new Nissan Qashqai to replace the one she has got.

Was about to order a Gun Metal Grey Ntec+ with the new 1.6 Dig-t because she fancied a petrol this time and might be get a job a bit closer to home in the future (it probably won't be but hey ho). Lastly we can get one new with the family discount, well that is if we got a Nissan dealership to actually follow up our visits its not been the great experience so far I have to say.

However when I went to pick up my car from BMW yesterday I had a little sit in the new 2 series Active Tourer (yes the name is rather a mouthful). Anyway looks wise the jury is out it doesn't look bad from some angles others not great but then I drive a 5 GT and that isn't exactly lavished with praise from some. But inside it is very very nice indeed and seems to have bags of space.

With me sat in the front there was loads of space for the kids in the back and the boot is pretty good as well it seems like the tardis and more space than in a BMW 3 some how. Now the last thing is that they have some of the new 218i in. This is the new 1.5ltr 3 cylinder petrol that seems to be really smooth and quite powerful and fairly economical to boot. They have got some launch cars at great prices that are dripping with kit, so we are off to have a test drive in one tomorrow and will report back.

Has anyone had a drive in one yet or had a look round one?

She doesn't want the performance and or needs it she drives like Miss Daisy. So the 1.5 3cylinder has 136 and is still 9.2 to 60 so its no slouch and on a part to the more powerful Qashqai performance and the BMW has better economy.

A 218d could creep into the equation but I doubt it this time she wants a petrol.

Interesting, it will be driven, tomorrow most likely. Have to say though that from the reviews I've read thats not come out at all.

Especially as the one we are going to look at has 55 profile tyres it should (we will see) have a good pot hole absorbency and I don't think it comes with runflats either. +++

I gave up on Nissan. They were useless. Ended up at Kia for the Mrs Sportage. That has been faultless so far. It's a bit weedy in the engine dept (petrol) but she drives at a very steady pace so it's not really a problem. The mpg isn't great, about 30odd average, but that's all town driving and stop start stuff. She doesn't do enough miles to worry tbh. We were actually told not to buy a diesel with the mileage she was going to do.

If you don't do the miles, the 2.0T petrol is no slouch. The offset pedals and general lack of feeling in the car ruin it for me though. I will drive our Q5 when we go away as a family and when I go shopping (to make sure it isn't my car that gets the car park dinks) but that is it.

The new 2 series and 2 series Active Tourer are not to be confused.

The car CarMad is talking about is "People carrier" variant (of a sort).

I've done a lot reading of reviews on them and I've not seen it described as uncomfortable other than by a Top Gear review that reads the exact opposite of everything else printed!  WhatCar?, that haven of all things cushion-like, even praised the ride on the 18" alloys!

Every review I have seen of it also raves about the off-road capability of it.

The Telegraph loved it and Autocar said it "complete flattens the new B-Class Mercedes".

I don't think it is a traditional MPV in terms of space but the economy v performance and the cabins are in a league of their own.  I'd like to see them doing a large version, such as a 425i Active Tourer.  I think it'd do incredibly well.

The 225i has been described as a car for "Mental Mum" with 0-62 mph in 6.3s and 350Nm of torque (and the 220d puts out 400Nm of torque).

Well we have fallen at the first hurdle. Rocked up today and they sold it yesterday and didn't have any other petrols to test drive unfortunately.

She does like it though but isn't sure its worth the extra yet and still wants a test drive to see how it drives. So will need to look for another to test drive down.

well .... SQ5 has been returned.   My thoughts are :

very very good engine, interior not bad place to be in, nice being that bit higher up again, quite a hard ride and didn't feel quite as luxurious as the X5 ........  do I like it enough to change cars?    Think I need to see what else is out there to compare at the same-ish price range tbh but one thing is for sure - I should have bought a bigger engine in the E-class = probably wouldn't be bothering to even look.

I did think that when you ordered it.  The 220d engine is good, but it's got a lot of weight to pull. :)

I would disagree, completely.

I think it is all about what you're used to and what you want.  Have you driven a Mercedes 220d, or a 520d BMW?  These cars are perfectly capable - if you buy them for the right purposes.

Would I want a 520d for commuting or town driving?  No, probably not.  However, it is simply superb for what I do - primarily long A or M road driving of 100 to 300 miles in a single trip and then the return trip on top of that.

Each to their own, but I do think a lot of people who say a 2.0 Turbo Diesel engine isn't sufficient in a large saloon car often forget how far engines have come in terms of output.

So I tried to get a test drive on another one but they didn't have the car it I assume someone is using it as their daily driver. So we will see if they still have it in next weekend or not.

It seems prices are really varied as well some dealers trying to get top dollar others letting them go for 3k less so it depends how much I want to search. One of the cheapest is in Newcastle I will have to send out a scout.  ;)

Its Stratstone they have exactly the same model as the one we are going to test drive next weekend hopefully for  a little over £1k less so will see how much the local one will move and let you know. +++

Let me know if you need to.  That's the dealer all our cars (bar one) have come from and it is fair to say I know the Dealer Principal and Sales Manager well. :roflmao:
