New to me X1 23d

Not a lot of loving for X's here at TSM by the looks of it, suspect even less for the X1!!

Chopped in my Audi A6 Avant due to a desperate need for an auto. The appeal of 4x4, compact size but still big enough for 2 kids, and a twin turbo brought me to the X1.

Feb 2011 X drive 23d, auto in sliver with what could be the hardest alloys ever to keep clean:

Is decepitvely quick, so used to the Audi's turbo kick, but in this you don't notice it, just the fact your already speeding. The 6 speed auto seems ok, geared really badly for the motorway, but i rarely venture on those. Wish BMW weren't so tight with options. This has black leather and business nav. What i wish it was specced with is; xenon [for the angel eyes], DAB and USB connection - shame the original owner didn'tr go for these. The choices of used 23d's is sparse, especially at what i picked this up for with only 38k on the clock. Happy chappy so far, the MPG seems a little scary though.............

We looked at one but my better half didn't warm to the interior compared to the 2 series and its about to be replaced.

Good cars and I like them a lot more than I did when they first launched which seems to be a common theme with BMW design its often a grower. +++

I didn't know it was due for replacement.  I still think of it as a very new model but the new X1 is to be unveiled in a few weeks by the looks of it and they're going to add an X2 to the range too.

The new X1 won't hit showrooms until next Spring though and it sounds like bells0 got a good deal on his.+++

Trip showed 36mpg for the long drive home on the motorway, getting roughly the same on my A road commute. Not sure why they geared it that way for higher speeds, sits at approx 2300rpm at 70! Doesn't bother me though as rarely hit the motorway.

The interior is really rather dull, but the drive more than makes up for it, even if i do end up with Popeye forearms from manhandling her into corners!!

What are the 'official' MPG figures for it?  I am sure the mpg will improve once you are used to 'how it drives' and stuff.   Afterall, you've come from a big ol' manual A6

Not my style of car, and I am very surprised at the slowness of the manufacturers to bring out twin turbo models.

Does the Mrs like it?

Oh - I don't think it'll fit in your garage.

Mrs likes it, as she think it's small enough to actually drive!! She drove the A6 twice in the 20 months i had it. Was totally put off by the size of it!!

She does like the raised position too, and is now desperate to chop her Hyundai i20 in for a Nissan Juke.....................

Little video of my travels:

Turboprop!  Would never have thought of planing it!  I have always gone car collecting by train.

oh, is this the one from the Mr 'no warranty' man in Aberdeen?

Plane was cheaper than train!!

It was the no warranty man, who did accept he would be liable under law!! Shall take an extended warranty too i think, too much to go wrong on this car......
