Jack Wilshere

15 posts in this topic

Anyone interested in football will know what I am about to mention.

The behaviour of Wilshere and his Spurs jibes and chants.

I like banter.  I love it.  It is part of the sport and I give loads of it and enjoy getting it back.

But....

A player to thousands of fans, over a microphone/speaker system, in public view, saying "Spurs are shit" in a chant and getting the crowd to shout it back to him?

I think he is very foolish and must have a death wish.  I also think it is irresponsible and I'm stunned the club haven't (to my knowledge) apologised for it.

Arsenal deserved their victory.  Villa were the worst performing team in a final that I can ever recall seeing, but it should not detract from an excellent display from Arsenal and two (in particular) fantastic goals.  However, I just feel this detracts from football and the club.  Why drag it down to that level?

I think the guy is vastly over-rated and bit of a dick, but I'm interested in what anyone else thinks including Gooners who can see beyond the initially funny side of it and rivalry.

I agree with your comments. He is young, stupid and obviously let the occasion get ahead of him.

Your captain once had a bit of a reputation for being a dick, Wayne has grown out of that and we can only hope Jack does.

Yup, Rooney once acted pathetically but has grown up hugely.  He still has his moments too, but it is the public nature of this that stuns me.

However, above all else I'm amazed he wasn't immediately pulled aside by Wenger (you can see him looking in the video clips).  I do have sympathy for both the manager and the club.  He did it last year and I think there was a lot of focus from cameras waiting for him to do it again - and he didn't let them down.

He is only 23 years old and he is a good player (not brilliant in my view, but good).  It would be a shame if he wrecks his career and it would be especially disappointing if thousands of youngsters think that type of public behaviour is what they should aspire to.

They are all idiots. Look at the stink three of our players have kicked up. One of them is Pearson's son.

Can't disagree with what you say MrMe, I think immaturity and getting caught up in the moment are primarily responsible, they should have seen it coming and put a stop to it though.

The crowd doing it in a stadium is quite different to a peer figure doing it in full public view, even if I did smirk a bit when I heard it.

I think your Thread summarises why so many of us are not interested in the slightest.........

Fair point but it's a shame when you consider how many matches are played. It is the minority.

Just look at Motherwell v Rangers for another example of when players need a kicking (pun intended).

Yes - but everything Football craves the full Media spotlight so when the minority to step out of line, the Media go bananas.

The good news is the Season is over - time for all the players to take some well earned rest in the Tattoo parlour......

Mr Wilshire is a Hitchin local and well known for being a complete prick. Before he was big time, my brother asked him for his autograph at a petrol station. He gave him a dirty look and said 'I'm busy mate'.

He'll probably keep his new Lambo tucked away for a while now.

The Leicester City players behaviour has gone largely un-noticed in my opinion.  Very little media coverage other than the BBC single article and the local media by the looks of it.

Apart from the recording of yourself singing racist sexist songs, perhaps the home country of your clubs owner isn't the best place to do it.

I see they have been sent back to the UK.

The Rangers defeat is fantastic.  Not just a defeat, a complete hammering.  So much was taken for granted about their return to the Premier League that it is hilarious to watch them struggling now.

If you went back a few years and played with words a little, imagine the headline of "Rangers relegated by Motherwell"

You'd have never believed it.

Mind you, going back to player behaviour, Danny Cipriani is doing his best to help Rugby keep up with football.

I think Guardiola summed up my thoughts on Wilshere perfectly - "Wilshere is a good player but there are hundreds of good players just like him in that position in Spain.  Most of them are better."

It was actually even worse than that.

He added: "....he is lucky because we have many players in the second team like him but he plays [at Arsenal] because there is no pressure at his club to win titles."

He's just been overly unlucky - as a UK Celebrity, he should be allowed to live above the Law and act like a spoilt brat, without recourse. It's about time the Police Force learned to respect this.......... ;)
