High speed broadband over air

Anyone using this type of system at their work?

BT are never going to bring Infinity to our estate due to the amount of businesses with leased lines paying them a fortune.

Been approached by a firm offering high speed internet over air using a dish based service. Been to visit a firm up the road that has had it installed and they are very happy with the 100mb connection they are now getting - the whole estate gets 7mb!!

They have only just gone with the service a couple of weeks ago and I was wondering if anyone has used this type of thing and has experienced any unreliability of the network?

Tooway seem to dominate in the UK on satellite services (not necessarily the same).

A former member of here is getting 22mb but the big thing with satellite is download limits.  Check if they apply.

If you're talking of line of sight and being offered 100mb without download limits, I'd just go ahead.  7mb?  Antiquated.

Yep, 7mb!!

I get 40mb+ at home.

Line of sight, 100mb, no download limits, free installation thanks to the voucher and as we are the landlords for 5 other businesses that want it (and they need our permission to install for them) they are doing it to us for £50 per month to include a 4g failover modem.

We pay more than that in BT line rental and broadband costs at the moment for our poxy speed.

Anything that gets you away from BT can only be a positive move for business.

We sued Openreach and won about 4 years ago over our business broadband, which we rely on for the call centre and for communication between sites, and as it stands, they can't even implement a simple call waiting system, they are utterly inept.

BT told my brother-in-law he'd soon be receiving Infinity in his locality and be able to sign up for it.

That was at the beginning of the year.

He rang them again in March and they said "yes, very soon now".

He rang them again a few weeks back and pressed them for a date.

"Definitely before Spring 2016".

Thanks. The only thing that makes me worried about line of sight: Ionica!! Remember them???? The dish even looks the same!

I suppose if the worst comes to the worst we can rely on 4g (get a great signal at the office) until we can reconnect the BT line and broadband.

It is a company called Airfibre. They are rolling out across the UK.

They take the nearest fibre connection to an an industrial / business area and bond it to make a very fast connection then beam it from the nearest high roof that they can rent.

They have been nothing but a pleasure to deal with. I haven't even signed a contract yet as they want to make sure we are happy and even then the minimum term is only six months!!

Looks interesting. My work BB is awful as we are next to the exchange, but at the end of the 'loop'. Sitting on a little island too [old converted pub], so unlikely to get Fibre anytime soon. Leased line quotes are approx £400 a month which the Director has said a firm no to.

Shall look into this!
