Turkey shoots down Russian fighter

12 posts in this topic

As the thread title, reports are coming in that Turkey have shot down a Russian fighter jet that has invaded it's air space.

Not sure how serious this will turn out but what does Russia expect if they keep testing people in such a way?

It does when reports now suggest one of the pilots has been found dead.

Sky reporting that both pilots are dead and that a Syrian rebel group claims to have hit a Russian helicopter with an anti-tank missile (one of their military aircraft that was sent ot search for the pilots).

Nothing will come of this anyway.  Putin will shout a lot.  Little more.

I'm sure some brain dead lemmings will believe the war mongers' predictions of WWIII, but the slightly more mundane truth is that Putin will skilfully use this as a publicity coup to promote the view that Russia is far more effective than the west in Syria and far less obsessed than the west with resurrecting the Cold War.

I think it shows these parties need a concerted effort to work together.

I can't quite see Russian military being allowed to over fly turkey, but they need a lot more mutual trust and understanding.  Something 'good' might come out of it.

Oh big white border posts too.  About a mile high.

Latest reports that Turkmen (closely related to, and generally looked after by) Turks shot the pilots as they parachuted down having ejected.

Seems a bit harsh and must have a significant bearing on the situation.

Yes, there is video footage.  Not nice footage either.

Much talk today that Putin needs to remember that there are borders and airspace he shouldn't be going in. He has ignored and disregarded where his air force flies for too long and has had enough warnings.

Turkey has taken the step towards saying enough is enough.

This isn't a part of the world that bothers with the Geneva convention. Russia has no business bombing the place anyway.
