3 Series Washer Bottle

I have a 3 Series Touring.  This is my first BMW and I find filling the washer bottle takes over 5 minutes as the washer fluid is very slow to drain into the reservoir.  The system has a remote header connected by quite a small pipe.  Is this normal?

My last 2 cars were Audi A4s which were very quick to fill.

Is it a new or used 3 series?

If used, is it possible the pipe has been crushed in a previous accident?

My only experience of filling a BMW washer bottle was on my aunties E28 5 series, and my own E34 525iX touring, obviously quite a few years ago, don't remember it ever taking long?

There is an entrance and exit filter to those bottles - assuming it's similar to mine, the bottle is quite big and placed in the wing behind the wheel arch covers. My guess is the incoming filter is gunked up.

A while ago mine stopped working all together - stripped them down, and both filters were just full of shit. Removed it, been fine since.

As Mac says, there's a fine plastic filter in the neck - you pull it out to fill the washer bottle otherwise it takes forever.

Been there and learned the hard way.

Kinda defeats the object......  :P:roflmao:

But I know what you mean.

They are a bit like kettle filters - they perish after a while anyway.  Probably clogging up the washer pump in the process.

Didn't realise there was one in the top - mine certainly

Isn't visible. The one at the bottom, buried in the very innards of the car as Mac says, gunks up and gets blocked due to reactions between different washer fluids, apparently. Given how hard it is to access it's a lot easier to stick to one brand although I reckon pumping hot water through the bottle will probably also clear the filters.
