Guy vs DC - Thursday 17 March, 9pm Channel 4

Ahead of the new Formula 1 season on Channel 4 this weekend, Guy Martin goes head to head with racing legend David Coulthard in the ultimate test of bike against car. With David in a Red Bull RB8 Formula 1 car and Guy on his Tyco BMW Superbike, the pair race in a series of challenges including a drag race, a brake test, slalom and a full-on circuit race. There's also entertainment in the pit as they compete in physical and mental challenges, testing their fitness and reaction times and exploring the science behind their chosen racing machines.

Looking forward to that. He is so down to earth, it's endearing.

Imagine a night in a pub with Guy Martin and Colin Furze - they things they'd come up with

Did anyone else think the navigator let the side down. Fair enough tyres expand and calculations change but all the way through Guy was saying things like 'shall I ease off a little' and the dude was basically saying 'could do'.

I thought the navigator was going to be in complete control of the speed and he was going to instruct Gut every step of the way. I also expected him to know the time it takes to get to the finish from certain points along the road at a given speed so could manually work things out and understand if they were way ahead which they were.

Was GPS banned? Why rely on how many revolutions the wheels make to work out the speed if GPS is allowed. Seems weird if they don't allow gps considering all the other tech that's allowed.

I had the overriding feeling that the yanks didn't really want a Brit to win.

Just watched it and had similar thoughts. He was meant to be good. The winner of the class appeared to be on his own.

Great way of losing though :)

As always he seemed to graft hard and hence did well.

I love his passion, commitment and lack of ego.

I enjoyed the episode and I like Guy but come on. I'm sure 90% of us could be trained up to take a wheel off. As for the scenes of him spannering on the car independently they were a bit cringy. I'm sure they would trust a rank beginner (in F1 engineering) to do certain things. Everything would have been checked, double checked and redone.

Entertaining, but substance wise it was the poorest GM episode I've seen.
