These were rare in the 1980s, never mind now.

Fantastic condition.

I had a Ghia.

My first new car when I ran a telecoms installation firm called Tactel (Tactical telecommunication). I reversed it rather hard in to a lamppost.

Sold it and bought a Pug 1.9 GTi

Milo will tell you many a tale about his red Orion Ghia when he was a young 'un.

My dad had two red 1.6 petrol Orions (that shape) in a row when I was a wee nipper in short trousers!

Mate managed to buy a that-shape Escort 1.3 petrol as his first car around 2006 when I bought my 205 GTi.  I drove it and my God it was shocking!  Someone nicked it and it ended up being crashed through a couple of front gardens.  He took it on the chin and didn't claim on the insurance as it was work feck all and bought a Toyota Celica (ST205) instead.  Every cloud and that.....

My dad very briefly had an Escort in that shape, it was supposed to be a boggo 1.6 carb fed engine, but someone had swapped it for an RS1600 fuel injected engine that had been cammed up too.

It was utterly hilarious, baby poo brown with steel wheels and hub caps, it bloody shifted though, after about a month he got fed up with it and bought back the Zender Mk2 Golf GTi he'd had before, then a month later changed that for a Sierra Sapphire Cosworth (RWD version).

Wow, I remember these from when I was a wee nipper. My uncle used to have a Black 1.6i Ghia (the injection model!!) and I always used to think of them as the grown up XR3i from back in the days - basically an Escort with a boot as it had the same engine!

The 1600E (executive) had grey leathers and different alloys.

As you may be able to tell, I was a bit of a Ford nut back in the day. There were RS posters all round my bedroom!!!

My ex FiL had a 2000E Sapphire in 2 tone blue.

I think I'm right in saying they were pale metallic blue bottom half with mid metallic blue top half.

Found attached pic :)

My mate had a C reg 1.6i ghia Orion.

He let his g/f of the day drive it.

She daren't rev it as she thought the engine was going to blow up if went any higher.

That engine was as rough as a badgers arse.

CVH engine, probably would have exploded if it'd gone much over 5.5k rpm, technically it could go over that, but it'd shake all your fillings out in the process.

Was the 1600E effectively an XR3 version of the Orion (same engine)?

My brother had a RS1600i, RS2000 (X2) and a Sapphire Cossie before defecting over to BMWW.

I had a white Orion Ghia (A992RPP) for 3 years as a company car in the '80s and then bought it off the company at car change time.  Loved that little car and sold it on at a profit after 140,000 trouble free miles as it was still immaculate, it was still running about locally well into the '90s and still looked good so the bloke who bought it looked after it as well as I did.

I'm not sure of the spec of the 1600E but I believe the Orion Injection Ghia had the XR3i engine.

The 1600E was just a special edition version. The Orion had both a regular 1.6 and also the 1.6i as found in the XR3i. It was all about the i!!!!

Talking about "the i" I remember going into an insurance brokers in the 90's, back when we all used to go to our local broker for insurance.

This was before the days of t'interweb and hearing a young lad arguing about his insurance being so high because he had bought a 205 Gti (he had actually bought it already & by the time he left, he was going to have to sell it again)

The broker was heard to say "it is because of the i mate, sorry" As he left with a sullen face I said to him, "good job you didn't buy a Mini Tahiti Special Edition!"
