Alfa 164.

Sadly wouldn't have been much to hear, they are very quiet with the stock exhaust.

I do really like these, that reg plate looks familiar, would have been a long time ago, but I'm sure it used to visit my mates dads Alfa garage.

Incidentally, as fantastic an engine as that has, we never got the best engine in Blighty for the 164, they actually did the V6 in 2.0 turbo flavour for the LHD market, that's a cracking engine.

I reckon they would easily have sold double the number of them if they had the 2.0 V6 fitted in RHD.

Was always a fan of these personally.

Especially in v6 form.

Transaxle close (ish) ratio gearbox, RWD, almost perfect 50/50 weight distribution & that glorious engine too.

That's the 75, I had one a few years back for Scumball, was great fun, V6, RWD, worlds most vague gear box (think how far the linkage has to travel to the rear axle, and all those sloppy bushes!) and electric window switches on the roof.

I still maintain the fastest lap I ever did of the Nurburgring (nothing amazing, I'm no hero, was around the 9:30 mark) was in that 75, despite me visiting in far more powerful machinery over subsequent years.

I remember it well Mr T.

I owned it's predecessor some years beforehand, a 1.8 & then 2.0 Giulietta, same drive-train & yes the first job was the gear linkage bushes, transformed the gear change.

Both the 1.8 & 2.0 I had would had 2 x double barreled side-draught carbs & they would see off anything under 2.5/3.0 with less than 6 cylinders in the day.

Back in the day, said mates dad (it was Marco, you probably remember him from Scumball) had a regular customer with an Alfa 90.

It's the only one I've ever seen and was in dog poo brown with a brown velour interior, it had the 3.0 V6 RWD and a digital dash, it was (I'm guessing) the predecessor to the 164, properly nice car to be in and drive, but so heavy that V6 had it's work cut out and it just couldn't keep up with a 75 with the same engine, it wasn't even close, it did however, have a briefcase in the dashboard and green interior lights.

Incredibly rare, I often wonder just how many Alfa ever actually sold, it was the only one any of us have ever seen and that was in an Alfa specialist garage, it was utterly crap, but you know what? I'd love to have one, dropped on big alloys it's got a look so ugly it's cool.
