fatcat
A knee means a new vehicle, now the RS5 of doom has finally gone I'm entertaining the thought of an SUV, mainly because of ease of access, in and out. So with that in mind my desktop survey (+ a little tryout here and there) I've come up with this fag packet selection. Evoque Si4 - 250bhp RSQ3 - 335 bhp MB GLA45 - 350ish bhp All just sat in not yet driven. The Evoque is a stunna without a doubt, problem is I had to climb up into the seat and worst still I had to drop out of the seat, not a good start. Dash layout was fine, visibility a little restricted, performance on paper a little short of expectations. RSQ3, ticked a lot of boxes, again abit of a climb to get in, getting out was much easier, layout was spot on. Looks are abit weird, still think it sits quite high. Performance is assured. GLA45, the dark sheep, Jane pointed it out and and we visited the local MB showroom, access was easy Peasy, layout was awesome, a really nice place to be, looks pretty good, performance again is assured. My head & heart says the GLA45.
dazdot
On looks alone i would also go for the MB GLA45. Nice looking vehicle.
Torino101
The Evoque would be a distant 3rd place for me in that trio. Either of the other two, both very good cars.
Cuprabob
Have you thought about a new Cayenne? GLA45 would be my choice
Torino101
It's diesel so maybe a non starter but an X4 35d?
fatcat
It's diesel so maybe a non starter but an X4 35d? Petrol only I'm afraid.... Have you thought about a new Cayenne? YUes - unfortunately just a little too rich for me, no way could I get that past her !
garcon magnifique
Macan? Decently quick ones are a bit dear though. SQ3 probably a better option. Does the GLA have the Fisher Price tablet bolted into the dash like the C class?

Does the GLA have the Fisher Price tablet bolted into the dash like the C class? Saw a white Macan yesterday and it was absolutely stunning:-) Yes, GLA has the tablet bolted onto the dash. Inspired by Twinspark:-)

patently
Second-hand Discovery? Available in a few months... Actually - no, you'll hate it, very competent etc etc but dull as ditchwater to drive
cruiser647
RSQ3 - it has the best sounding engine of those 3 listed above.
JonC
I agree. RSQ3. Evogue would be my last choice.
garcon magnifique
I'd far rather save a fortune and have a Skoda Yeti than an Evoque.
fatcat
I do agree, the Evoque is the least desired amongst 'em, but it does look achingly nice. The GLA45 is by far the most suitable for my use and looks pretty damn good, I'm sure the RSQ3 will sound just about right but I'm not totally sold on its looks. After the RS5 debacle I'm reluctant to even own another Audi. Never owned a Merc either, I'm sure I will not be disappointed.
Torino101
I know it's bad to stereotype but I can't help myself passing judgement on the chavs that drive them.

The Merc - might have that stoopid hadn & foot brake contraption (still) plus the ipad displays. Do BMW have a 2 Series alternative - with a lovely 6 cylinder engine? CarMad
I'd be tempted to go for the RSQ3, what is not to like about that 5 cylinder warble. No BMW with a petrol really, the Macan would be a good shout if its in the right ball park.
Scotty
Did I miss anyone suggesting the Jaguar F-Pace? A car for a fat cat? Surely it must be a Jaaaaaaag!

chasdrury
He's looking to buy now (1 year+ waiting list on the F-pace) plus, I assume, will be over budget. A friend was told 4 months wait for an f pace at the weekend by Jag in Leeds.
eldavo69
My friend was told £44k for a very well specced diesel F-Pace - after paying £80k+ for his Hybrid Cayenne that's a very enticing price. P.s. - his unregistered F-Type Project 7 is still for sale for the right offer
fatcat
I did look at the F Pace, but the one I want sells for £65k. Moving on........
