Andy_Bangle
Quote In his exclusive column for Motorsport.com, Felipe Massa looks back at his career and explains why he has decided to retire from Formula 1. During the career of a Formula 1 driver there are many special moments, and what I am going to tell you makes me a little bit emotional. In recent months I have been thinking a lot about my future and I have taken the decision that at the end of this season, I will leave Formula 1. CarMad
I good guy and a good racer, never really seemed to have that killer edge of big personality like the best but none the less he did the sport proud. I suspect being the family man that he is we won't see him that much again like Rubens I suspect.
garcon magnifique
This is probably just me being precious, but it really bugs me when the media uses the word "retire" in this context, as if F1 is the only series in motorsport. He's not retiring. He's leaving F1.
E-bmw
Agreed under normal circumstances GM, alas he doesn't say (yet) that he is moving to another branch of the sport. (so maybe he is fully retiring?)
CarMad
Very true, but to many thats the end unless they go into Sports car in which case they just might get a line in a paper at some point.
garcon magnifique
Reading his statement, he doesn't intend to make a decision on what to do next for a while. Pretty sure there would be no shortage of sportscar offers.
E-bmw
Oh, I am certain he would be beating the offers off with a big 'airy stick.
Cuprabob
I don't think it was too unexpected. Comes across as a really nice guy and played an outstanding number 2 to Schumacher. Unlucky not to win the title in 2008 but lucky to be alive after the incident in Hungary. I wish him well and I expect Jenson to Copt and paste the statement in a few weeks time.
E-bmw
I have to say, I wouldn't be surprised if that were announced this year also.

Ian_C
The guy's a legend. I'm sure I've posted this pic before, it always makes me laugh. He is set to join elite group of drivers to have made 250 Grand Prix starts. Currently just six in that club including Alonso & Button (Massa & Raikkonen will join it by the close of the season)

It seems that Bottas and Hamilton will both have contracts up at the end of the year so it will be interesting to see how the season evolves. CarMad
Probably best, a good solid driver that very nearly won a championship but not quite.
