VW to quit WRC 2016

:uhoh:

Another nail in the WRC coffin.

Anybody watching the Wales WRC this week cannot help but be impressed with the skill and entertainment of the drivers and their cars.

We just need Ford M-Sport to pick their game up, not amusing to have Hyundai rub their nose in the gravel, especially home gravel.

Never really understood why VW did WRC as they don't really use their success in marketing to sell cars.

Even before the scandal, they never capitalised on it by doing a Polo R, which no doubt would have sold well, especially if it was a limited edition.

Win on Sunday, sell on Monday doesn't really apply to the typical VW Customer.

This.  VW only started making a hot Polo GTi last year.  Their previous efforts were always a bit lukewarm / half-hearted imo.  Didn't you have a Polo GTi many many years ago Fatcat?

More surprised by this than Audi quitting Le Mans.  When is the next Polo due?  The current chassis was out in 2009, I think there is a new model due in 2017, and another *possible* factor behind it on top of the emissions scandal savings required (not wanting to be racing an 'old shape' Polo when the new shape is hitting the showrooms)
