New car - paint protection question

Hopefully the M2 is incoming this week, so I have a question.

Now I know absolutely Jack about detailing and stuff.....and the dealers haven't mentioned the usual rip-off paint protection thing.

What I would like to know is this. Is it worth getting something done to the paintwork on a new car (in the real world)?

The current car had something done when new at the dealers. But it's still got stone chips.on the front and I didn't hear the BMW dealer rushing to offer me more as a p/x as the paint to looks so gorgeous.

If so, what should you get done? I have seen people mention allsorts of ceramic coatings and other witchcraft and jiggery pokery ......but I am unsure if these are just OTT detailing fanatics.

If 'something' is worth doing, what is the cost? And where do you get it done?

Any help appreciated, as I really havent got a clue.

Depends on your budget, but ceramic coating is the DB and in the UK, Gtechniq http://gtechniq.com/service/  has been the market leader for a long while.

I did a post in the M2 thread about a Cheshire company that does it, isn't that your next of the woods? (got no idea)
