Thinking of buying a cerbera 4.5 LW

4 posts in this topic

I am thinking of buying a Cerbera 4.5 LW. I have never owned a TVR before and my last car was a Porsche Boxster S.

The car will be used as weekend only and mainly for a bit of fun. The Porsche was great, but everytime I hear a TVR I start to dribble, there unbelievable smile.gif

Any advice you can give about the Cerbera 4.5 LW would be great! I will be buying from a dealer and looking to spend about £33,000 (2000/2001.

Is it worth getting the sports exhaust and/or De-cat pipes?

What problems are likely?

Look forward to your responses!

Steve (Cerb owner wannabe)

Hi Steve,

Welcome to tyresmoke. Unfortunatly i can't tell you much about the cerberra apart from i fricking love the V8 lump of joy in it! 420bhp on tap in a car that weighs a little over a ton has to be respected smile.gif

When i looked at TVRs i was really interested in going the cerbera route, just coz its a monster, but the T350 ended up winning it for me. You tried one? You could get a one year old one in the price range you are looking for.... It hasn't got the straight line speed of the 4.5 LW but it does handle pretty well... but i'm sure you've already checked them out.

I'll try and get lagoo to answer on the sports pipes as i think he had them on his Tuscan Red Rose. Failing that you might wanna check out www.pistonheads.com as they got tones and tones of TVR drivers over there and we got about three! smile.gif (honest if nowt else)

Cheers,

Nick

Cheers Nick.

I must admit I havent looked at a T350 because I know the only one for me is the Cerbie 4.5! Everytime I see one and hear that V8 it makes me shiver!

The look of them is awesome and knowing you can blow away pretty much anything else on the road is going to be a big thrill.

My major concerns are:

(1) Ive heard build quality ad reliability is poor! Is this so?

(2) Whats the resale like? Are they hard to shift privately?

Cheers

re (1)... i've heard the same thing about the reliabilty of them. So make sure you have a stash in the bank or get some sort of warrenty for it.

2) The more expensive the car the small the prospective market. I can only talk from selling my T350 but they don't move quickly... seems to be dealers who are the major buyers. Guess that comes from the reliabilty fear. Still at least with a Cerbera at that price you've taken a lot of the depreciation.

You buy TVRs with your heart not your head smile.gif go get one!

http://www.fernhurst-tvr.co.uk/ have a couple of nice ones (well look that way on the site anyhow) and www.tvr-centre.co.uk have a LW red rose @ 36K
