Mozilla and/or Mozilla Thunderbird

If you go for Thunderbird, you get a great replacement for Outlook mail client too!

The basic Mozilla pkgs everything in one: browser, mail/news, HTML composer, IRC client. Bloaterware, but still better than Seattle's offerings.

Firefox is the web browser and Thunderbird is the mail/news client.

I've been running Thunderbird 0.6 since it came out and it is reliable, fast and rather nice looking.

Just installed Firefox 0.9 and it seems to have a slight delay between you clicking a link (or entering a URL) and actually loading the page, but other than that, it too looks neat, has some great features and is pretty quick. That's on Unix though, not Windoze.

If you mean Usenet newsreaders then Xnews gets my vote...but that is for binaries
