TurboTrev
It's all down to personal choice, but for me the 1.8T is the clear winner. Better tuning potential and better residuals. V5 was designed as an 'executive' car, the 1.8T was designed for the sporting enthusiast.
shao_khan
Welcome to Tyresmoke Both of ya. <hellosmilie> It is a totally personal choice, the V5 is quitea nice engine, but the 1.8T has far better long term potential if you are likely to want more power - limit of the V5 is around 190bhp, 1.8T will stretch to an easy 220. Other than that not much in it.
Dirtbag1981
How would i make it to 220 mate? what parts do i need to change
shao_khan
With the 1.8T depending on the turbo (K03 or K03s) it has fitted you will pretty much achieve this with just a remap - I know guys on the Beetle forum are seeing 235bhp with a jabba remap these engines have the K03s turbo apparently. Basically retaining the standard turbo, you can have a remap, upraet the intercooler, uprate the injectors, replace the exhaust and you will see some decent sustainable power gains. Companies like Oettinger suggest a 210bhp remap, but in reality these figures are often higher, but the 210bhp is the German TUV approved Figure. Loads of comapnies you can speak to depends where you are based and how far you would like to travel.
Dirtbag1981
ta mate, what sort of money will this cost roughly
shao_khan
Well it just kind of escallates, different remap companies charge different ammounts and they all tend to drive differently. I guess remap from £500 upto say £3000 for bigger turbo kit. Front Mount Intercooler around the £900. Injectors you'd need to shop around for. But it basically is something you can just keep spending money on and it gets better / faster all the time.
