Hi guys, im thinking about having my seats retrimmed with alcantara leather, not the whole lot but just the centre sections front and back in a contrasting colour to the all black ive got right now. For those of you who already have it- is it worth having it in your car ? how easy is it to keep clean and do u think its better than the full leather?

Basically ive got 2 options- replace all the seats with some from a another S3 that has got the half leather or have it professionally retrimmed.

Any ideas/opinions appreciated. beerchug.gifbeerchug.gif

I went for the silver Alcantara mainly for the reason I wanted to brighten up the interior. I thought it looked a bit dull being all black. That might have something to do with my previous 2 cars though, they both also had full black interiors. The older one was full leather and the other was again half leather half alcantara. After living with those two cars I decided I prefered the alcantara. Its not cold/hot depending on the weather, you are held in your seat a lot better with "spirited" driving and I think it also looks cool on the doors!

My old car had black alcantara as I said and this one is silver (actually it looks cream to me) and I have had no trouble keeping it clean....but then no one gets in my car with food or drink FIREdevil.gif

I've got imola yellow alcantara, it rocks smile.gif

Its great, very porno and the girls love it! Much bettr than plain boring leather and its very durable. Ive had it cleaned once since new, costs me about $30 AUD (10pounds) which is extremely cheap for a shampoo clean!

mmmm im getting even more tempted now!!

Should i get a complete set of seats out of a breakers yard or have my originals retrimmed in the colour of my choice ??

By the way... what would be an ideal colour/contrast to go for if my car is Silver ??

Cheers

My car is silver and I have the silver (although again looks cream to me) alcantara, that looks great! I think its the best colour to have with the silver exterior.

Don't for get the bits on the doors though, there the finishing touch!!

Not sure if your best getting yours retrimmed or a set out of a breakers. I suppose if you can find them in a breakers and there are in good condition then they would be best as you could then sell your current ones bringing the cost down or possibly resulting in no cost at all beerchug.gif

hi mo

i have the silver 'creamy' leather, a useful item to have with you is baby wipes for cleaning off the odd mark. leather being a natural skin needs occasional feed with a good leather cream. sekret.gif saddle soap is ok for deeper soil marks. leather seats are fab

best wishes

Alcantara is great, it has a subtlety to it that you standard leather doesn't, adds a touch of class. Many people have commented on the upholstery in my A3 smile.gif

It also feels really nice, I drive my A3 in me cacks, that's how nice it feels.

Personally I think both full leather and the leather/alcantara combo looks very nice.

I chose full leather cos I have a small kid and leather

is very easy to keep clean.

If you do get the alcantara done , then rather get it professionally retrimmed and have everything done ie. seats, doors etc. so that it looks exactly like an S3 with the original leather/alcantara combo.

Mo,

I umm'ed and ahh'ed about the choice of leather when deciding upon the spec of my S3. I had seen both the black leather and silver leather in the 'flesh' but had never seen Alcantara. I opted for the silver / black Alcantara after seeing Daz's photo in the gallery section of 'that other' forum and have certainly not regretted it. I wondered how long the silver (cream is more accurate) sections would stay that colour - but they really do !. The odd mark that has appeared is simple to wipe out using plain old soap and water - as recommended on the Alcantara web site (see associated thread in cleaning forum for URL).

Here's a few shots of the seats in my motah to help you with your deliberations.

Cheers,

R

Thanks guys, those photos really look the mutts nutts !! smlove2.gif

I tve definately made my my mind up with all your help and decided im gonna go for it as soon as possible. Im probably gonna go to a retrim specialist and get the 'real silver' colour rather than the 'champagne' colour even though that does look fantastic too. Ive spoken to a retrimmer and he has quoted me a fantastic price and will supply me some Golf IV seats while mine are being retrimmed. Stratstones near me who are Fewawi specialists have quoted around £1200 which is a bit extreme i think.

Now then where the hell did i put that damn piggy bank ?? jump.gif
