Colin M
Just had confirmation that the new A3 3.2 litre power will definately be 250bhp. The car will be available only in the 3 door version initially and with a 6 speed manual box. twin clutch version not until next year. I should be able to take firm orders on the new A3 in about 2-3 months from now.
Drillslinger
3-door INITIALLY. Sounds like the 5-door WILL be coming though Thx for the info Colin
Rich
Its news like this that is making me think I'm gonna have to chip my S3 just so that it stays in its rightful place and has better performance than an A3!!
Drillslinger
That is, until they develop a forced induction kit for the R32 and folks start putting them in their A3's
Rich
Yeah well hopefully people will take their time and then I'll have a new S3/RS3 or possibly an S4 so I won't be so bothered! Then again I could be dreaming!
Prhim
Shame about the wait for the twin-clutch 'box. Juding by the initial reviews on the A3, would DEFINITELY be interested in one of those. One assumes that, while the V6's 250bhp is less than many people's (mine included) modded 260bhp, the extra cylinders and torque will make it a close match? RobK
Colin, what's your opinion on the report in Autocar that said there would be no new S3?
Riz
I definately think there is room for a S3 but its going to have to be alot better than the 3.2 V6 A3! A3 3.2 V6 250bhp quattro= 0-62mph around 6.7seconds top speed of 152mph S3 3.2 V6 280bhp quattro= (non-official) 0-62mph should be 6seconds or alittle below top speed of 155mph electronically resticted RS3 3.2 V6 Bi-turbo 350bhp quattro= (non-official) 0-62mph should be sub 5seconds top speed of 160-170ish unofficially (155mph on paper like RS4) I think that its too early to tell if they will make a S3 or RS3! snez22
if the new 3.2 a3 will sell at around 25k as many believe then an s3 will surely close to 30k. i think that may be a bit much for an extra 30bhp.
Woppum
Yes, i think that Audi will find the S3 hard to price becasue if the 3.2 is gonna be around £25k and the RS3 would be what £35ish (with decent options) the S3 will have to be somewhere in the middle which is quite a close bracket isn't it? sidicks
Maybe £30k for 30 extra horsepower, but presumably you'd get nice recaros, bigger alloys, etc etc to justify the extra £5k over the 3.2l A3. sidicks
