FYI - just got this from Bloke @ AMD!!! Can't wait to get my car now and head down to these guys....!!

Hi,

Just to let you all know that after much development with the R32 we have

now achieved very good results and are ready to market the package.

We have achieved over 270bhp and 270 lb ft and the addition of a stainless

steel Milltek cat back exhaust system gives the car a glorious engine note

under acceleration, but still remains unobtrusive when cruising.

The AmD 270 conversion for the R32 is priced at £850+vat. This includes the

exhaust, all fitting, remapped ECU and rolling road set up time.

JHT.... sounds sweet! When is your R32 arriving?

I see you have a Golf GTi Anni at the moment. How are you getting on with it? Petrol or TDi?

Hi Tony,

Have ordered my R32 from mate's big dealership up in Edinburgh........Blue with the Grey leather/alcantara, cruise and delta.......have been told that it's a longer wait for this combo...Oct approx........gutted!!! I've got a TDi Anni at the moment and think that it's fantastic car! I do about 30-40K miles a year at the moment (about to decrease noticably hence order for new toy!) so it has proved perfect....! Have it in silver and still grin when I walk up to it - the amount of 'Golf envy' you get is somewhat amusing....!! Is yours Petrol or TDi ? What are your thoughts on the car ?

Was going to take my Anni down to REVO.........but eventually decided to use the money as a deposit for the R32!!! Can't wait to get it now and my impatient nature is beginning to show through....!!!

Woohoo!

Sound fabulous - £850 for loads more power and torque, and a cat back thrown in for free smile.gif

Gonna have to think seriously about re-ordering that R32 I had to cancel.

Thanks for the info JHT - that sounds like a very nice gain in power and torque! I thought that a 10% gain would be possible, but 30bhp is even better......should be a useful gain. I'd really like to hear the car with a Milltek exhaust too, I'm sure it sounds the DBs.

I ordered an R32 in February.....Blue with black leather .....and was expecting delivery in May, but it now looks like it's going to be July frown.gif . The wait is killing me, but at least it gives me more time to save up!! It looks like I'll have to save up another £850 now too!! grin.gif

JHT, are you going to do the conversion as soon as you get the car?? Does it need to be run-in first?? What about the effect on the warranty - are you worried about that??

Does anyone here have experience of AMD remapping - what's the reliability and driveability like etc. ??

Yes, I too love the 'Golf envy' factor....there are so many standard GTi's around these days and other Golf drivers always stare and look twice when they see you go by.

In fact I was cleaning the car last weekend and a guy walks by and says "What have you done to this Golf...it looks so different!".

Mine is the Petrol version, 180 BHP. It goes really well, I am very impressed with all aspects of it apart from perhaps the stereo could do with a bit of 'beefing-up'.

I very nearly purchased an R32 last week.... one was available nearby (as a cancelled order) in Blue with Black leather but there was a big mark-up on it which made it unattractive as it would have been a double whammy - losing £2.5k on the Anni and paying £3k over list on the R32.

I think I will hold onto the Anni for a while and then see what the MkV holds in store.

Have you been to the Mk4 Anniversary site yet and registered?? If not, take a look and drop James a line to register.

R32 270. I love the ring to that. With VAT it comes to just under £1000, bit steep for me at the moment, gonna be handing in that cheque for the car in about 3 weeks hopefully, if i still want it then, i could consider just the remap and screw the amazing exahst (bolloc*ks). AMD charge £350 for the remap on the 2.8 my guess is it will be similar.

Also will 30bhp make the car that much faster, and will more power and torque be avalible from lower revs. It all needs for me to take it under great consideration.

I have just looked on the site and there is no more information on the development as yet. I think i will give them a bell tomorrow. beerchug.gifnotworthy.gif

Hi Richard,

emailed Alex @ AMD about this and he said that they prefer to have the car run in with AT LEAST 1000 miles on the clock before they start working on it, which makes sense...

RE the warranty side of things - I will definitely have a serious chat with my local dealer prior to any mods and get their view on warranty claims etc....the other option would possibly be to have the car serviced by AMD themselves, as they offer (from what I can gather) everything a VAG dealership can...and probably a bit more expertise I would imagine on performance models.....!? Not necessarily geographically convenient for everyone though....and of course the whole warranty thing about it not being a recognised VAG dealer etc etc........ smashfreakB.gif I'll probably take a view when I eventually get my car and guage how long I intend to keep it....in all fairness if I was buying second hand a car like the R32 I'd be just as happy (if not more so ?!) if it had been regularly serviced at a specialist like AMD then a standard VW dealer....just my thoughts!

TONY - thanks for link to Anni site - have seen it and will definitely get my details onto it soon - prob a good place to sell my car in a few months!

Cheers

JT

Guys, I have seen the AMD dyno prints and I have a question. How can they measure torque and hp at the crank without taking the engine out and sticking on a test bed?

And if they extrapolate using some kind for formula, without knowing what that formula is, the 270hp can't be deemed reliable can it?

rolling road of course! smile.gif

obviously all they can really measure is HP at the wheels... but i guess as long as the rolling road is calibrated and the maths is right its got to be pretty close...

isn't rolling road the standard way of measuring bhp on a mod'd car?

There is no information at present on the AMD site, how long do you think it will be before they bring the conversion on to the market. When i e-mailed them they said it was definatly gonna be brought out, i just want to know when and if how much they would charge for the remap.

I also have queries on if the VW dealers will be able to tell it has ben remapped, becasue of the effect on the warrenty. It all havs to be taken under great consideration, it is just that 270bhp sounds so good!!!!

Have just spoken to very helpful lady @ AMD about the warranty side of things and she just really confirmed that it does depend alot on your local dealer......however she said that you can book the car in for the conversion 'via' Weyside Audi which is their local VAG dealership (who they do alot of work for) and this will mean that it's more like a dealer approved conversion.....If/when I go down the AMD route when my R32 eventually arrives (hopefully before the golf Mark VI arrives ?!?!) then I will probably use this 'loophole' as it doesn't cost anything and sounds like a v good idea....!

Was also chatting to a bloke at the w/end who had a very tasty Carlsson Merc and who's friend has an S4 that has been down to AMD - apparently the bloke has nothing but praise for what they did to his car and has been v impressed with AMD.

Hmmmnnn.....just called up VW cust servs direct and had a chat with someone there. The lady confirmed that VW warranty dept tend to take a very Black and white view on any mods and would likely decline any claims if something has been altered/added to the car. She did add however (and I was somewhat impressed/sceptical about this) that, if you had a FSH on you car and something needed work on it after say 3 1/2 yrs (ie outside warranty) then VW would generally take a view (providing your car had been properly serviced etc and was totally standard) and in 'return for you loyalty' would give financial assistance in fixing the problem......would be interesting to put this to the test! Has anyone had any experience of this ?! Or do most of you keenos change your car every 10 mins !?
