P1ootsy
Does the dash need modified at all to fit in a new Sat/Nav unit to replace a chorus tape deck. I know its double height but would like to see a pic of a 2002ish A4 with Sat Nav so I can work out what goes where! Can anyone help?
mcgough
yea i did that install!
mcgough
right you have to remove the lower part of the dash, remove the single din holder and replace with a vag part double din one, then cut small holes in dash you will see where its dead simple
craigyb
OK, I have A3, A4 and A6 / A8 units available and all the bits to install them. PM me if interested.
byron13
Craig - wish you had this going about a month back !! Oh well. Any ideas on why my RNS-e has gone crazy since putting a gen 2005 dvd in? I only get intermintent sound now! I get about a second of audio then it cuts out for about 45 seconds then 1 second again. Been over all the settings in VAG COM and all looks correct. Also constant "noise" coming from the speakers and an occasional "pop" even with the keys off. I have a feeling the unit did not take the updated software. Any idea how to do some sort of hard reset?? Cheers
craigyb
How did it update, it's a 2 stage process, first the firmare is done and then the OS/NAVI section. Did it do that?
byron13
Don't remember I am afraid but it seemed to take an age. SW still shows as 0100 with both disks? New disk is 8PO 919 884C I seem to recall reading about SW 0200 ?? Different Map numbers with each disk in. I am waiting on an email from navplus.us so I can post on there. Thanks Craig - much appreciated.
craigyb
The C version is software 0100 same as what you have, I don't think the latest disk with TMC is out yet.
byron13
I think I will have to ask satnavsytems for a new unit! This is the only way forward I think. They can address the battery going flat issue at the same time !! Pulled the plugs o the sat nav last night and bing, fine this morning! Thanks Craig
craigyb
They did supply the unit with warranty didn't they? Obviously I have to do the same with any installations that I do. Good luck Craig
byron13
Luckily yes Craig. Just need them to get out to me soon now. Thanks again.
skibum
Hi Craig Can you just do the install? I bought a satnav plus (Cd Based), the cables and a tv tuner from ebay. I also bought a 20Gb Phatbox. Dunno how you feel about fitting it for me & for how much? Cheers Skibum

crasher
Sounds like you're gonna be a busy chappie this summer then Craig!
craigyb
I know this sounds like a cop out, but I really would only like to do upgrades where the car already has a double din symphony/navi style opening. I do not want to be replacing facia's and moving air con systems around and that certainly would not be included in the price.

craigyb
There for install really, not for sale on there own, I'd like to sell them with A4/A3 installs. Plus they need adaptor leads as I only got the units.
crasher
Just like to say that i've had my RNS-E upgrade done by Craigyb today, and i'm well chuffed with it. Superb quality screen (puts the old Nav+ well and truly in the shade). An excellent service. He had all the various interface cables prepped and ready to go, and he absolutely made sure it was all working and in order before I was allowed to leave, right down to the TV-in-motion mod. Splendid service Sir, and well worth the money.
craigyb
Thanks very much Barry, it was good to meet you at last. And I'm glad your happy with the install. The S8 is probably the biggest and the hardest to do. Craig
