simonb
I said that but i'm 2 faced i suppose - would love anything with VXR on it - or any VX220 for that matter!
simonb
Gutted that the Monaro's been finished - i was looking forward to there being a few of them on the market for when i'm late 20's and actually available to afford the insurance on one of the Ozzy bad boys! malagus
keeps them rare i suppose. I hope another car like that gets made, as otherwise with VX220 VXR, the VXR badge looks a little crap on just the astra, vecta, and zafira.
simonb
They're doing a Meriva VXR too apparently! That should be interesting - performance but without looks - can't see it being all that appealing with a mixture such as this!!!
malagus
devaluing the badge like rover did with MG. just makes ppl less likely to buy the good VXR models.
simonb
Yep - true i suppose. The Corsa too. Should do a VX model and then the VXR stuff. SEAT did that with the Cupra. Cupra is now the top spec, bu the 'warm' hatches are badged as FRs.
garcon magnifique
[ QUOTE ] devaluing the badge like rover did with MG. just makes ppl less likely to buy the good VXR models. [/ QUOTE ] Except of course that in MG's case the badge had some heritage in the first place... As for Vauxhalls having their merits... I believe the base spec model is indeed a 'Merit'. (sorry) Have to admit the only VXR that interests me is the Monaro. Shame GM have canned it, but I believe there are enough to meet supply until late next year sometime. They'll be an interesting used proposition in a few years.
simonb
Surely the Astra looks good though too? I think it looks a fine car - despite the torque-steer! I can live with that
malagus
i love the astra. i reaaaallly want one. just think that it needs some heritage. although a fine car, it can't be the best VXR in the range.

Sven
[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] I don't hate Vauxhall. I don't particularly like them, but they have their merits. [/ QUOTE ] Yes, they are perfect rental cars... [/ QUOTE ] Ain't that the truth... it's quite a hassle to avoid them when you need an airport rental. On their websites they lure you with A VAG car, BMW "or similar", but when you arrive it somehow always the "similar" i.e. some bloody Opel/Vauxhall waiting there for you. "Similar" my foot... NewNiceMrMe
Yes and I should point out that when I said they had their merits I did of course mean the Nova Merit.
Thorburn
Personally think the Astra VXR doesn't look very nice at all and from what I've read the Megane 225 Trophy/Cup or the Golf GTI Mk5 are nicer to drive.

(sorry) [/ QUOTE ] I thankyou! The Astra does look good if you like that kind of thing. (But then I am over twice as old as Malagus... ). Personally I think it appeals to Nova/Corsa chavs who want to trade up one day. If you want a hot hatch that actually handles properly, you're better off with almost anything else (according to the mags that have tested it, not me). Gren
Most powerful car in its class????? These marketing men must almost have one class for every car out there. It's a family size saloon/hatch - so is an S4, verious Beemers and the Holden whatsitsname from Vauxhall. What are these people on? Why don't they just say the most powerful Vectra? Thorburn
[ QUOTE ] Why don't they just say the most powerful Vectra? [/ QUOTE ] Because they are trying to angle it as a hatchback, e.g. competing with everything from the Fiesta ST to the Leon Cupra R. It'll be torque steering rubbish, kerb ahoy!
