magrillz
Sorry, probably bad choice of words. I think it would be very well built and very reliable but the interior quality always gets slated. I did read that the new 06 models may be slightly improved though. Anything would be better that what I have now though
Darpen
hey red, i was wondering whether or not the headunit is removable at all? im interested in getting one but cant really leave it in where i live
RedRobin
A small section of the headunit is removeable and leaves a flashing red light.
Mo-S3
Hi Robin, i dont really visit this forum much but saw your post. I have the same head unit and its linked to a Avic 9DVDII with DAB tuner, a 12 cd changer and an Ipod via the controller. The controller has the full features with the 5700 head unit. Like you said the 5700 is a cracking unit and coupled with Bose i have it does sound great. Havent felt the need to even upgrade the speakers or sub, Plenty of bass. silentandy
Snoopy let us know how you get on with the Alpine, I'm thinking of fitting one of those too.
AlexM
Hi Snoopy, I'm also looking at this unit, are you buying the Alpine Nav unit to go with it? Im hoping to get it ordered next week.
Snoopy
No im not getting the nav at this point as i still have a TomTom i may upgrade it later though.
silentandy
Just to confuse matters slightly, Kenwood have just released a new 2DIN head unit with a 7inch screen which looks good and is at a good price: Kenwood DDX 6029
Tarmac_Terrorist
I really like the look of that unit but all becomes expensive when you add a CD changer and sat nav I should think.
RedRobin
I don't see the point of the screen unless you have SatNav. To save money re CD changer, why not use an iPod instead. And does the Alpine above allow simultaneous DVD SatNav and CD Audio ?
swil00
Looked at the Kenwood one before, but I have to say I think I prefer the Alpine one instead now.. Like the idea of the Ipod adaptor workings being internal to the unit... No extra boxes to find room for.. Wonder if the Key illumination can be changed from Blue to Red.. Inzaghi
Hey Snoopy, keep us all informed. Interested in exactly how good a fit you obtain and details of surround you choose to purchase. Presently sourcing the best deal on the recent Pioneer 2-Din h/unit and will be commencing an install on delivery.

[/ QUOTE ] Because in my case as im going for a FULL aftermarket setup it will control the Alpine PXA-H701 processor and display all the processors info on the screen in real time adjustments so makes it easy to adjust, + touch screen adjustment makes it easier still (30bands of EQ on each 8 channels of output, 8 channels of amp levels, Parametric eq, 8 bands of crossover + slope adjustment, time correction on 8 channels etc etc) The full speed ipod controler is a bonus too, Satnav i may add later but but as i have the tomtom it can wait for now but i prob will upgrate sometime in the future. AlexM
Also looked at the Kenwood and had it recommended by my local supplier. Think i'll go with the Alpine as well, like the DVD audio feature. The price though on the Kenwood is tempting, around £400 cheaper.

RedRobin
Geoff, that's great. My Pioneer has extensive EQ settings too but I find that once I've set them to my 'sweet spot' I leave them set. You'll find that your full system's DVD SatNav will be far better than any TomTom or similar type of SatNav.
Snoopy
I agree the integrated satnav will be better but for the time been i want to concentrate on getting the audio side of the system in, setup for correct imaging, staging and tonality. (custom builds for the component sets, custom subbox build, custom amp rack for the alpine PDX amps, using minimum of space in FULLY stealth builds etc etc.), The SatNav unit can be added at a later date Under the seat say (when money and time allows). The Tomtom comes in handy as between us we have 7 cars
AlexM
Anybody dealt with the company below? Their doing the Alpine for £629 which is the cheapest price i have seen. www.audio66.com Also doing the Kenwood with Nav for £999.
Snoopy
I have not but i will say make sure they have the Alpine instock as most places have sold out as fast as they can get them at the moment. Alpine is having problems meeting the demand.
ste7euk
Hi, I have just had fitted a Alpine w200i in my golf gti mk5. It in not the fit I was hoping for and is not flush, in fact it sticks out about a centimeter from the facia. The picture posted here shows it flush, is this in a MKV GTI? Is there a special bracket for this, the Alpine bracket was used on mine. Can anyone here help me to get it flush? Small thing really but it really bugs me.... Cheers Steve

AlexM
Not good, i've just ordered one as well. Let me know if you find a work around for it. Was looking to add the Nav unit to it as well.
ste7euk
Heres a picture of mine, as you can see it's not horrible but would look so much better flush. If I could get my hands in the bezel ring I've seen in this thread somewhere I think that would make a big differance but I just can't find one. AlexM
Doesn't look bad at all, how have you found the unit so far? is there a big difference in quality compared to the stock unit?
