pingpongpo
Hi guys, Just seen a post in the Passat forum regarding new bulbs. There was talk of the output being reduced if using the xenon coloured ones? I thought they were supposed to be brighter? I was looking at the powerplus H7's Powerbulbs webby and was wondering if they're lying about them being a lot brighter?
pingpongpo
They're code PBPPH7 by the way. Will I notice much difference on my '52Reg Golf Tdi130? (Original headlamps still)
Tobes49
Do you want the blue look (about the same brightness) or brighter headlamps?
pingpongpo
I want brighter headlamps. I think the ones I have now are fairly crap to be honest. Although if thats illegal, I'd like to go for the bluey ones instead.
petsy
get some xenon replacement ones!
Rustynuts
Phillips vision plus aren't blue looking, but give better lighting. The blue looking bulbs are less effective than equivalent clear bulbs. All they have is a blue coating over the bulb to give it the "HID" look, and it doesn't really do that either. You're not going to get the Mercedes type look with just a bulb swap, that'll involve changing the whole headlight assembly for HID units, alomng with levelling motors and headlight washer systems. pingpongpo
So Philips ones are the best to go for to give extra light?
petsy
it's a tossup between osrams and phillips!
pingpongpo
Just noticed on the powerbulbs webby that they have bulbs that give a whiter beam but is blue? "Excellent Xenon styling - a distinctive white driving light with blue tint LIMITED TIME OFFER BUY ONE PAIR - GET ANOTHER PAIR FREE Power Blue is a brand new product from Power Bulbs, the UK’s leading automotive lighting specialist. The product delivers up to 30% more light than a standard bulb whilst also giving a styled blue tint similar to that found with the HID ‘Xenon’ system. Better still, Power Blue is available at a fraction of the cost! " OR "Excellent value, great performance and up to 50% more light! LIMITED TIME OFFER BUY ONE PAIR - GET ANOTHER PAIR FREE Power Plus (from Power Bulbs) delivers up to 50% more light on the road compared to standard halogen bulbs. The result is a longer, wider beam and significantly improved reflection from signs and the road. Unlike most bulbs, Power Plus is also filled with Xenon gas to deliver maximum performance without increasing the wattage of the product" I don't know which to go for. It would be so much easier if I could actually see what I would be getting first.
Rustynuts
Don't go for 30% and a blue tint, go for the 50% more light.
Regulator
Simon ... I know exactly what u mean mate ... I just wanna be able to test them first aswell ... I want the brightest lights which are the most distinct ... yet I've also seen some cars like the X5 with the purple tinted xenons ... In the Lupo I can't put xenons so, which is the best bulbs 2 buy ... Rustynuts thinks the 50% more light ... What do others think?
Rustynuts
Don't confuse xenon bulbs with HID headlights. Bulbs are a few quid each, HID headlights (like you saw on the X5) are factory fit or hundreds to retro fit.
pingpongpo
I'm going to go for the white light ones which give the 50% extra. Looking forward to blinding all the numpties driving around with their fog lights on. How comes I can see a car without fog lights about 20 cars in front of me on a motorway but they still insist on having them on when I'm directly behind them? petsy
Apparently the high beam ones are a real bugger to change!
pingpongpo
I'm only going for the dipped beam bulbs to start with as these are used 99% of the time anyway. The main beam bulbs are fairly good in comparison to the dipped.
pingpongpo
Right bulb knowledge people!! Whats the difference with these two products on the powerbulbs website? OSSH7 and PBPPH7 They both look fairly similar (Different makes) but the thing is that with PBPPH7's you get another pair free! If they're the same I'll obviously go for the freebies but I'd rather have whatever gives the best light
mike_true80
When I spoke to PowerBulbs, they told me the Osrams were actually better, although I was buying main beam bulbs to accompany my xenons. The free bulbs that came with the Philips didn't actually fit my lights anyway so I gave them to my Dad!
Regulator
what a twat the guy at powerbulbs. ... I want a pair of H4's and a pair of H7's and he's not willing to do it eventhough they are the same price and buy one get one free! ... Yesterday he said it was ok and today he doesn't want to do it. What a prat. Anyone know of anyother decent place to get a good set of bulbs?
mike_true80
What do you mean he's not willing to do it? Surely you can order as many bulbs as you like? Call back and talk to someone else - I spoke to a lady.

Call back and talk to someone else - I spoke to a lady. [/ QUOTE ] You can order as many bulbs as you like , but the ad. does say ..the free pair offered is of the same fitting as those ordered. Commercial decision I suppose. I've found their service very good.
UBM
I've found them pretty good too. BTW the new Philips GT150 Power2Night are 50% more light on the road and the bluey tint!
Regulator
Hmm, Thats what I probably overlooked where it says same fitting. I would have thought it was ok aswell as long as they were the same price. O well ... Anyone know anyother good bulb companies. I think I may order from Autobulbs.
