Simonl
sorry i'm being a dumb ass, but how do you get these things to work!?!
Stabb
Assuming you mean when the wipers are on rain sensor? One click up from the off position....
jimmyp
If it's any thing like the mk4 then put the stalk to the intermittent setting when it's raining and the sensors do the rest. HTH
Simonl
Hmm that's what i thought. But they aint doin' alot! How do you guys find they work?
jimmyp
I think you can adjust the sensitivity of it with that little thingamejig on the stalk, and then let it rain.
Stabb
Mine work very well - its been raining in JHB for the last 2 weeks solid! I have mine set two clicks to the right, over from the extreme left (the sensitivity setting that is!)
Simonl
[ QUOTE ] I have mine set two clicks to the right, over from the extreme left [/ QUOTE ] Do you drive on the right or left stabb, or are your stalks swapped over?
Stabb
Good point - we drive on the left side (RHD cars). Wiper stalk is still on the right side.
encee
If you switch off the engine with them in the rain-sensor position (one click up), then don`t foget to re-set them when you start up again, ie: by clicking down again to "off", because they won`t work if you don`t. RedRobin
They're absolutely brilliant! Saved me from a very sudden and heavy cloud outburst in the dark while travelling at speed. Also from thick lorry spray. One less thing to be concerned about when both hands on the wheel.
mikemod
I agree Red, I drove through a very large puddle after a blind bend the other day, completely covered the windscreen with water, couldn't see a thing and before I had even moved my hand to operate the wiper stalk the wipers had come on in turbo mode and cleared the screen
ucjtckc
Has anyone figured out if you flick the switch all the way to the left whether they are more or less sensitive? I'm guessing left means more sensitive?
mixit
With Red too on this one. Very handy when you see the big truck coming at you thats been through a storm a few miles away and is spraying everything in its wake. If you leave em in the "inter" position, they're armed and ready. Not so handy in the summer though if you get plagued by loads of bugs. It can make a real mess if a bug lands on the sensor and you havent washed the screen first.
Simonl
don't have an intermittent setting on our wipers now then.

nbetts
Thats right, intermittent is replaced with rain sensing. Think about it for a moment. Why would you have a timed delay wipe, if you can replace it with a wipe when the glass was actually wet??

I was refering to the systems ability to wipe after a lorry passes you, without having to actually move the stalk. If you get a bug on the sensor in summer, the system will still wipe, wet or not. I know, coz it happened to me in my R32 on a couple of occasions.
Simonl
But when mine gets wet the wiper doesn't always come on straight away.. hmm thinking about it, it has always been in the 'one up position' maybe i need to reset it. CarMad
If its only light rain then they don't come on straight away because the system doesn't think its wet enough yet. Leave it sometimes just a few seconds longer and sure enough they sweep over. On the Audi (assume its the same on the Golf) The intermittent setting switch on the stalk is now a sensitivity setting. Push it to the top and its super sensitive, at the bottom it won't come on as quick. I have to say they work very very well for me and in changable weather are a godsend. Sometimes I change the sensitivity cause I want them to wipe a bit more sometimes they are a bit keen and I turn it down. I don't have to do it much but its nice to have the ability to tweak it a bit. I have to say I would hate it if I didn't have them, and my other halves new Astra Design also has them fitted along with Auto lights.
RedRobin
Auto wipers receive our thumbs up unanimously! It's impossible to understand how anyone wouldn't like them. (Bit like Millteks )
Stabb
Eh not actually encee. I was given a bit of a fright the other day, when pulling out of the garage and suddenly the buggers were off and wiping themselves into a frenzy!
hanirosa
don't they need resetting each journey?
Stabb
I leave the stalk up one from off all the time and every now and then when water hits the screen off it goes....could be a bug (feature!?)

[/ QUOTE ] It's a feature, it's the auto rain sensor. to adjust the sensor there is a switch on top of the wiper stalk. left not very sensitive, right very sensitive.
