stevej69
My B6 Quattro has a very notchy gearbox mainly 2nd gear when its cold. So much so it can be quite hard to engage second gear when setting off in the morning. Any ideas? is this normal. Its slick as you like when the engines warm. kite
Hi, I have the same with mine, got the dealer to change the box twice NO DIFFERANCE drove a new car and that was the same.must be a B6 thing!
Sponge
Mine feels a little notchy too. Sometimes I can't put it in first. It's most noticeable when cold.
Cameo
If it's a six speed box then I think this is normal. Mine is also as you describe. I queried it with Poole Audi at the last service and was told it's normal and have read similar observations by other owners.
Bluedan
Yeah my B6 A4 Avant TDI is exactly the same. Fine when warm, but notchy from cold. So much so, that 1st gear is nearly impossible to engage from second.
JasonP
Same here on my S4, when cold sometimes have to give it a big shove to get it into first. Spoke to my local dealer and local specialist who say the 6 speed box is notorious for this.
stevej69
Just spoken to Poole Audi about it now, as they have FINALLY given me a date for sorting out my squeeky hinges and trim! They said its normal but slackens off with mileage
UBM
Mine was stiff when I picked it up on 7k (and the gears) but its much looser now. even the mrs has noticed...
Headerss
It used to happen to me with some cars, try to remove ur leg of the clutch (barely), and it should click in, and let it warm up nice & easy. Hope it helps
the911sc
yup... same here; both my s4 and a4 are notchy when cold and noticably crunch into 2nd and 3rd..
joe90
same with me. Had it checked a number of times by dealer tech guy and he said it was no different from any others, so accepted it was a "feature". Borrowed a A4 DTM over weekend and found newer 6 speed totally different, really slick gear change. Now wondering about swapping!!
ashleyminors
Me too. A couple of times it's been nearly impossible to get into 1st, and afer a couple of attempts gave up and went for 2nd. Driven a couple of B7s though and the gearchange is SO much better, no struggle at all, much smoother.
Nelson_R32
I find my B7 notchy 2nd to 3rd, I've also have a couple of occasions where its been imposible to get it into 1st also, strange!!
Biscuits
2nd to 3rd can be a bit 'keeerlunk' rather than 'click' when cold... and the full-lock juddering of the front tyres is worse when cold, so supect the diff needs warming too. the911sc
Agree that the B7's I drove seemed smoother in changing...
