MK4 Golf Anniversary TDi

hello,

I am looking into buying a Diesel 2003 plate Golf TDI anniversary as i have taken a new job which requires me to travel approx 80 miles each day.

I have been reading up on the 'remaps' for these from superchips and the performance enhancements seems to be very impressive for the minimal outlay.

Has anyone had a TDI re-mapped if so has there been any problems with it ?? (i need it to stay 100% reliable)

Also i would like to have SAT NAV in one, are these easy to retrofit, noticed a few units going cheape on e-bay with all the bits.

Cheers

Thanks for the reply stevie, thats a good jump in power for (i am new to VW, is 130bhp std ?), i was reading on the superchips site that the anniversary goes too 185bhp and 265ft/lbs torque, is the AMD convesrions better then ?? Was there much reduction in MPG with the re-map ?,

Thanks

Cosjon, I've owned my Anni since new and touch wood, it has been entirely reliable so far in the 3.5 years I've owned it.

As Shao has hinted, they are great cars and they still turn heads with their subtle styling and nice wheels.

The Diesel version will deliver good MPG and comes with enormous amounts of torque so it will put a smile on your face even without the remap.

Watch out for a car that was not previously owned by an enthusiast.... the high mileage ex-lease cars for example. These normally have badly corroded BBS wheels which are hugely expensive to replace. (This was a common problem and most owners had theirs replaced under warranty).

Other than that make sure the service book is fully stamped and that the interior has been well-cared for.... the Recaro's can start to look shabby on higher mileage exmaples.

And remember, you get what you pay for... there are a number of examples coming in at sub £10k these days but the nice ones are still fetching anywhere between £11.5 to £13k.

Hope thats helps. 169144-ok.gif

I would be looking up to about 13K for one anyway, probably in silver as i currently have a black car and it doesn't take long to look dirty !!

A mate has a lupo GTI and i was really impressed with the quality and build, very good. I assume that the golfs are on the same level ?

I notice the TD always seems to have higher miles, if i looked at one at say 40,000 miles will i be subject to any big service bills such as cam belts etc ??

Sorry for the questions I am a complete novice on VW's !!

Cheers

Yes, the Golf's are just as solid build wise.

Most of the TD's were bought by people in a similar position to yourself, hence the bigger miles...

I don't think you're looking at any major bills and to be honest I don't think the cambelt gets done until 80k although I may be wrong.

Mine only has 28k on the clock so I haven't reached that stage yet!

Don't worry about the q's, that's what this forum is for!

One reason why i like them is that they look quite smart in std trim (especially for a diesel!!) with all the options on. I think the anniveraries just seem to make a complete package. looked on a few web pages and the cam belt doesn't appear to be an expensive job anyway so thats good.

What were the options on them as i have been told that cruise control , auto dim mirror etc were options ?? I would really like SAT NAV too, noticed you can buy the screens and cables off e-bay which are around £500. I assume its an easy swap ?

The options list for the Anni was somewhat limited!

IIRC Tornado Red was the standard colour, but you could change this to Metallic Reflex Silver or Pearlescent Black for a small fee.

The only other option was Sat Nav (at approx £2k) and I think that was it. There may have been one other option but I don't think Cruise was an option??

The Anni's are a nice complete package and the fact that you don't see many around is quite cool too.

I'm sure an after market Sat Nav shouldn't be too hard to fit, but I'm no expert with electronics!

Servicing on my petrol isn't too bad, the service cost will be the same as a standard MKIV Golf so if you call the local VW dealer they should have pre-set prices according to the mileage status.

Personally I'd always use main dealer but I do know that others on here will opt for specialists once the main VW Warranty has expired on the car.
